A Random Musing

I am frequently amazed how sometimes I'm burning with creative desire and ability ... and other times, all I can do is sit and stare into space. I can't find a pattern to it, other than that there's a spike in my creativity after a con. But I didn't even go to cons before 2000, and the pattern is much older than that.

It's similar to my moods ... when I was depressed, my moods went from "Please just kill me now and get it over with..." all the way up to "Oh, what a bleak day." Now that I'm not depressed, my moods cover the same range, but it's "moved up" a few notches, so they range from "Oh, what a bleak day..." to "I feel GREAT!" What the counseling and the St. John's Wort did, was move my "average" mood up higher.

I'd like to do the same thing with my creative urge. Instead of ranging from "staring into space" to "burning with goodness," I'd like to find a way to move the average level up a few notches, so it will range from "just cranking today" to "sheer brilliance!" I'd like "staring into space" to drop off the bottom of the range, the way "kill me now" dropped off the bottom of my mood range.

I'm open to suggestions, if anyone has any -- that don't involve spending money. If I had money to spend, I'd already be spending it on cons, which are proven creativity-boosters.
