Khent Devto, Takes 2 and 3 [gaming]

You may recall I created a character for laurie_robey's Star Wars game. Upon further reflection, and hearing the group composition, I decided to revise him a bit. I had been thinking of converting him to a Jedi Counsular, so I wrote up a version like that; but since hantamouse is going to keep playing his haggle-happy squib, and jamesbarrett is going for a more scoundrel-ish sort of character, it looks like the role of party tank goes to me.

Something that's not immediately clear in the SWRPG is that Jedi Guardians are really the main melee-oriented class. They're expected to inflict and suck up damage, rather than avoiding it, so my previous "Finesse fighter" build is weaker than he should be. Also, let's face it, Jedi Guardians are always hungry for skill points, so I rearranged his stat points a bit to give him Str and Int, at the cost of losing his Dex. Fortunately, that made more skill ranks available, so I poured those into Enhance Ability, figuring that whenever he had the opportunity, he'd start a fight by buffing up his Dex to raise his Defense.

Finally, in order to avoid diluting him, I jettisoned the Force Adept level and just made him straight-up Jedi Guardian. This cost him the Alter feat, alas, meaning that my beloved Move Object (and the classic Jedi mind trick skill, Affect Mind) will have to wait for later levels. They can still be attempted untrained ... it's just that the chances of success are very low.

Khent Devto, Jedi Guardian 2

Str 14, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 10, Force Points: 3

Init: +0; Def: 13 (+3 class);

VP/WP: 24/14; Rep: +1; BAB: +2

Saves: Fort +5 (+2 Con, +3 class); Ref +3 (class); Will +3 (+1 Wis, +2 class)

Skills: Affect Mind +0 (untrained), Balance +4 (ranks), Battlemind +7 (+5 ranks, +2 Con), Climb +5 (+2 Str, +3 ranks), Computer Use +4 (+2 ranks, +2 Int), Craft (lightsaber) +3 (+1 rank, +2 Int), Enhance Ability +7 (+3 ranks, +2 Con, +2 Attuned feat), Heal Self +4 (+2 ranks, +2 Attuned feat), Intimidate +4 (ranks), Jump +5 (+2 Str, +3 ranks), Knowledge (Jedi lore) +5 (+3 ranks, +2 Int), Move Object +2 (Int; untrained), Tumble +5 (ranks), Speak/Write Basic

Feats: Attuned, Combat Expertise, Control, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (lightsaber), Force-Sensitive, Quickness, Weapon Group Proficiency (blaster pistols, simple)

Special Abilities: Deflect (Defense +1) (p. 61)

Equipment: lightsaber (+4, 2d8+2, crit 19-20), blaster pistol (+2, 3d6, range 10m), comlink, Cr 200

Typically uses his Combat Expertise to have Defense 15 at the cost of only having +2 to hit w/ the lightsaber. If he has time to prepare before a combat, he will use Enhance Ability to raise his Dex (to improve his Defense) and Battlemind to increase his attack roll.

And for those who are curious...

Khent Devto alternative build, Jedi Counsular 2

Str 10, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 12, Force Points: 3

Init: +0; Def 13 (+3 class);

VP/WP: 21/14; Rep: +1; BAB +1

Saves: Fort +4 (+2 Con, +2 class); Ref +2 (class); Will +5 (+2 Wis, +3 class)

Skills: Affect Mind +5 (+4 ranks, +1 Cha), Computer Use +5 (+3 ranks, +2 Int), Craft (lightsaber) +3 (+1 rank, +2 Int), Diplomacy +4 (+3 ranks, +1 Cha), Empathy (+2 Wis), Enhance Ability +7 (+5 ranks, +2 Con), Friendship +5 (+4 ranks, +1 Cha), Gather Information +4 (+3 ranks, +1 Cha), Heal Another (+2 Wis), Intimidate +4 (+3 ranks, +1 Cha), Knowledge (Jedi Lore) +5 (+3 ranks, +2 Int), Move Object +7 (+5 ranks, +2 Int), Search +4 (+2 cc ranks, +2 Wis), Sense Motive +5 (+3 ranks, +2 Wis), Speak/Write Basic, Treat Injury +6 (+4 ranks, +2 Wis)

Feats: Alter, Combat Expertise, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (lightsaber), Force-Sensitive, Quickness, Weapon Group Proficiency (blaster pistols, simple), +1 feat

Equipment: lightsaber (+1, 2d8, crit 19-20), blaster pistol (+1, 3d6, range 10m), comlink, Cr 200

Typically uses his Combat Expertise to have Defense 14 at the cost of only having +0 to hit w/ the lightsaber. If he has time to prepare before a combat, he will use Enhance Ability to raise his Dex (to improve his Defense).

While the Counsular version does have some more interesting skill options, I'm basically an action-oriented sort of guy, so I'm going to stick with the running-punching-laser-swording Jedi Guardian version. He's a lot more focused with this build, so he should be more fun to play.
