More baffling psychology in Neverwinter Nights 2; I've had foisted into my party a chaotic evil ranger.

Plotwise, his initial joining of the team makes sense ... you need to go to a certain place and he's the only one who knows how to get there. Okay, fine ... as long as he follows orders and doesn't go around slaughtering villagers I can put up with his snotty attitude. I've been killing CE thugs all over the Sword Coast for no better reason than because they're CE, but for some reason I'll put up with one in my party. Okay, whatever.

But then, when we get back from our trip into the wild, suddenly he's a permanent addition to the team, homicidal tendencies, lewd comments and all. Say what now? Tell you what, why don't you and the firebug sorceress team up and go raze a few towns so that the rest of us can come along, kill you and take your stuff?

Honestly, what is UP with the writing in this game? And why is it that I'm supposed to be trying to gain influence with the NPCs? Shouldn't they be trying to gain influence with me? They're the ones who keep asking to tag along, not me!

Here! Here! I've always found that one of the oddest things about party driven RPGs... I've got a dozen people wanting to join my pary but I have to convince Joe Schmoe here to join just so I can raid him of items and leave him in a ditch :)

or course.. it may be that it is because I have stolen every item off my last half doezen team members and left them for dead that no one wants to join up with me..... nah...

Oi! Sorry you have to put up with less than spectacular writing. :-( Not every video game is going to be great, especially in this genre. But hey, that's at least good motivation to write better stuff if you GM a pen and paper game, right? ^ ^;;;

Well if it was so bad that I was in real angst over it, I'd just stop playing. ;)

You know... I've been trying to find a RPG game to play, and you're not making it any easier. j/k

Seriously, thank you for the amusing reviews. You've confirmed all my fears about this game in the last couple weeks. I will keep looking, and if i find a good game let you know.

The greatest appeal to me about the original NWN wasn't the storyline, it was the availability of tools for end-users to create their own content. Bioware/Obsidian need to fire their writers and hire people like Adam Miller to write modules.

And...a CE Ranger? Isn't that like a Dwarven Archmage, an Elvish coal miner or a Kender becoming a Knight of Takhisis? o,O;

And I thought Kreia was a useless NPC...

Speaking of oddities, isn't it strange that to get the game to run in a stable manner, I have to slow down my processor to the tune of about 400 MHz and *then* engage my motherboard's Dynamic Overclocking feature?
I'm still trying to figure that one out...
