Open Letter to the Network Guys

Dear Sirs:

STOP MUCKING AROUND WITH MY ACCESS RIGHTS, PARTICULARLY ON MY OWN COMPUTER!

We've gone through this again and again. You turn my rights off, I yell at you and the manager makes you turn them back on, and you say you're going to leave them on, but then you quietly turn off all my access rights again and I have to yell at you AGAIN.

KNOCK IT OFF.

I am an experienced web developer and just as much a member of the IT department as you are. I know what I'm doing around a PC and am not going to download a bunch of malware. You know this. Why you keep slyly insulting me this way, I don't know, but I resent it.

Turn my rights back on, please. And stop turning them off.

-The Gneech

This is just the sort of crap that made me extra delighted to change jobs. I hope I won't have to put up with it any more. (That might depend how long I spend goofing around on LJ, of course!)

Experienced developers treated like children. Yeah, I know what you mean. It's a similar situation at my workplace, where desktop web access is restricted.

So this happens in other places, as well. Simtra's their senior system administrator with control over multiple systems...but they keep either turning off or limiting his access rights too. I think it's because some PHB didn't specify that the company policy ought not to apply to those who actually know what they're doing. Either that, or development is mad at him again. There seems to be some sort of war going on there.

Anyhow, I hope thy turn your rights back on and leave them on. I know from watching Simtra it's hard to do your job when your job requires those permissions and you don't have them.

Yeah, it got fixed again ... it's just annoying that it keeps needing to be fixed!

If only a Big Honkin' Crash were actually viable to teach 'em a lesson, no?

Lizard Rat out.
