Traffic From Hell

Y'know, we only moved 7 miles west, but apparently it's a critical 7 miles that adds 55 minutes to your commute.

Great googily-moogily. -.-

In happier news, I got the rest of the week's SJ drawn last night, and I'll probably manage to get some scripting done today. So there's progress there at least.

Is it Dragon*Con yet?

Around Tyson's Corner you're tempting fate in a tank, much less a bike.

Crikey. You sure it's not just an unusually bad day? o.0

Well, it was an unusually bad day all over the NW quadrant of the Beltway and every road that connects to the Beltway, including the Dulles Toll Road, which we take in to work. The carpet cleaning guy was coming from Maryland on the Beltway, and he was an hour late getting to our old place in Reston.

Time to start experimenting with departure times. Back when I was was working in a government office with flexible work hours, I discovered that even for my short commute (just under 30 minutes on a good morning), a 10 minute variation in departure time could result in a 20 minute increase in travel time.

Yup, that phenomenon is well known around here, and leaving earlier would certainly help. But that would require me to be able to drag myself out of bed earlier, which I have not been able to successfully do more than once or twice at a time.

My body wants to sleep until 8:00 and doesn't care who has to die for that to happen. 0.o

In my case, it was either 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later to get the good traffic flow. That 20 minute window in the middle was the time that housewives got into their Toorak Tractors to take their sprogs to school.

No, not quite Dragon*Con time, yet. I'll let you now when we get closer.
