Well, Buddha's in the trap again, to go to "Alley Cat Allies" tomorrow for a major once-over. He's howling pitifully -- really anguished-sounding -- which hurts a lot. That, combined with anxiety over the possibility (remote but real) that they may declare him "unsaveable" and euthanize him on the spot, has made quite the emotional roller-coaster.

The Cat Lady (as we've taken to calling her) is due to arrive here right about when gaming starts ... and then it will be "Catcha later, Buddha!" 'til Monday. Hope everything will be okay.

In other news, the Bowflex is half assembled now.

you've given Buddha another chance...
so be proud of that no matter what, but can they put Buddha to sleep over your wishes or without your consent? Maybe Laurie could go with the cat lady tomorrow (since you're going down there would NOT be feasible?)

good going on the Bowflex....MLD

Re: you've given Buddha another chance...
For this clinic, part of the paperwork I had to sign before Buddha could be treated was basically "Don't sue us if the cat bites you, and the veterinarians reserve the right to euthanize any cat where they think it would be in the cat's best interest." However, this is Alley Cat Allies that's putting on the clinic, and they don't believe in euthanizing a cat just because it's FIV positive. They're firmly in the trap, neuter, release camp when it comes to feral cats, so I think the only way they would decide that is if the vet sees something in Buddha that tells him or her that Buddha's gone into the final, full-blown stages of FIV and there's nothing to be done to make him better. However, considering the progress Buddha has made in the past week with the regular food, rest, and antibiotics, I don't really think they're going to conclude that. It's just something that made us nervous when we saw it in the paperwork.

Also, we discussed with Anna when she came to pick him up our theories about Buddha being a former pet and why we thought so. She said they have an animal behaviorist at the clinic who will evaluate him. If in a few months, Buddha's behavior has changed any more, they can also re-evaluate him at that time, and if he's adoptable, try to place him in a home. (That is, of course, assuming that we haven't already found some place to house him.)

I'd like to see the process that they follow...and hopefully Buddha won't try to bite the vet! Please keep me posted...
