I Finally Figured It Out

Playing an MMO is sorta like being in Groundhog Day, except that a handful of other people also realize they're in Groundhog Day.

yeah, that's pretty much it. Personally, I stick with an MMO until I 'finish the story' and then move on...

Holy crap, that puts it all into perspective!
No, wait. Where does the in-game economy of "I need a new sword to defeat stronger monsters, but need money for the sword, and need to defeat stronger monsters to get the money" fit in here?

Well, the difference is that while the world resets overnight, you don't, and neither do the other people who also know it's Groundhog Day.

But the NPCs et al. don't know they've reset, so as far as they're concerned, they're seeing you for the first time. They don't realize that last week you were level 20 and this week you're level 25, because there was no "last week" for them.
