CSS Strangeness

How can "float: left" possibly be making the text unselectable and unclickable?

My brain hurts.

EDIT: This touches on the phenomenon, except I'm using Firefox, not Safari. So far, no luck finding anything else even close.

To me, that sounds like the rendering engine thinks there's something transparent above the text. It might be a browser-specific issue. For a kludgy fix, try playing with the element's z-index.

Given the time constraints, and the limited lifespan of the page I'm working on, I'm afraid I'm going to have to chuck CSS and go with tables, much as it pains me to do so.

Yeah, a short-lived page might as well use tables.

The issue sounds really familiar to me. Is the text clickable/selectable in IE?

Yeah, that's the kicker -- something works in IE and not in Firefox. 0.o

It's quite definitely the float -- if I turn off styles all together it works, and if I take out the float it works. I'm working inside an area defined by a pre-existing template that uses table layouts (which I can't change), which is why the link I pointed to talking about "floats inside of TD tags" seems to be related.

Yeah sounds like browser related Gneech, sorry I can't be much help, other than HTML standard I don't know much about requirements.

I feel your pain. :) CSS is a wonderful idea in theory, but its current incarnations really suck.
