Yuck. :P

gamera_spinning has posted the new Batman trailer for anyone who's interested.

All I can say, is that it looks really dreadful. Yuck.

Since The Killing Joke? I have issues with the physical portrayal too, but it's more the personality for me and that seems appropriate enough.

"The character portrayed in the trailer bears no resemblance to any Joker character I've seen in the comics. He looks like he should be wielding a chainsaw, not a poison-squirting corsage."

AMEN.

No one can ever beat Jack as the original Joker there.

This is either going to be a surprising hit, or an unsurprising clusterf*ck.

Actually, moustache-under-the-makeup and all, I thought Cesar Romero was still a better Joker than Jack Nicholson -- except for not being allowed to Joker-gas anyone. In a "Batman-played-serious" show, Cesar Romero could have done it.

I thought Mark Hamill was better than Jack.

Re: ad nauseum
This joker makes me think of a badly portrayed violator from Spawn >.<

I was thinking he looked like a hobo clown who just woke up in the gutter and is looking for his bottle of MD 20/20.

The Prince song was not a high moment in Joker portrayals by any stretch, but it was at least OTT flamboyant (e.g. the purple silk "artist beret").

Thank Gawd I'm not the only one who saw that in the theatre! My friends all think I'm nuts, cause that line was cut from all the VHS and DVD versions that I've ever seen.

Makes it hard when you play trivia pursuit and KNOW that there's an extra line that sometimes doesnt get edited :)

Thank goodness, I was beginning to think I was the only one who wasn't thrilled about the whole mindlessly psychotic Joker thing.

ad nauseum
Can i get an explanation on what you think is wrong with it? Because otherwise I'd have to start guessing and that always makes me look like an ass.

I'd also like to point out, just as a general statement, that this is a trailer. As I recall, the Batman Begins trailers were dreadful, but the movie was a passable representation of several post crisis and dark knight, and Year One story points.

Trailers doesn't tell you dick,to be quite frank, as I thought Transformers was going to be a great movie movie about giant robots with pan galactic confrontations. instead it was a movie about some whiny teenager and his ever ending quest to get laid... with robots.

Re: ad nauseum
Batman, Alfred, etc., were all decent enough, but the Joker was just plain wrong in every important respect.

Where's the rictus grin? Where's eye-bleeding purple and orange suit? Where's the dancing around, cackling, and making bad jokes? Where's the ridiculously large gun that spits out a tiny flag that says "Bang!" -- only to have the tiny flag come shooting out and impale you?

The animated series once had an episode where Joker took a bunch of people hostage purely for the opportunity to hit Batman in the face with a cream pie. That's the Joker.

Knives? Pfeh. Unworthy of the clown prince of crime! Not when you can put a bomb in somebody's oatmeal. This guy in the trailer would never come up with something like The Laughing Fish. As far as I can tell, he doesn't have the sense of humor for it.

Ewww. I posted months ago about my fears for this movie after the first picture of Heath Ledger as the Joker was released. :( I don't like what they're doing. I mean, I see they're trying to make the joker more realistic (guy with a messed up face doing the best he can with makeup) and less cartooney...but that's not the POINT of the Joker. He looks like some hobo clown who just woke up in the gutter and is looking for his bottle of MD 20/20.

But still, I think it'll work with the more realistic, dark, gritty style that Christoper Nolan is going for, and I'm still going to see the movie. I had serious doubts about American Psycho as Batman, but he pulled it off nicely.

Thing is, that Joker, as Batman's foil, should be unrealistic, bright, and manically cheerful -- just killing people while he does it.

How is a tiny short teaser trailer supposed to show you whether or not this occurs in the movie?

This could have just been the 'dark' trailer. Ledger *WAS* given the Killing Joke as his study material, don't forget that.
