Too Much To Do List, With Ramblings

Digression: Don't randomly deprecate stuff without providing a replacement first! Like, say, the "start" attribute for the OL tag! Harumph. End Digression

Sometime around Dragon*Con my beloved Clié fell into a grey hole and disappeared, never to be seen again. I have since found out that the PDA market in the U.S. has effectively imploded. Apparently, if you want an electronic notepad, you're pretty much expected to have it be part of your phone these days. Pfui. So I've decided to get myself "the best of what's left" -- which as far as I can tell boils down to a Palm T/X.

Unfortunately, when it evaporated, my Clié took my most recent Too-Much-To-Do List with it. A little accident involving Buddha, a frappuccino, and the synch cradle prevented me from doing any backups all summer ... so I'm going to have to add stuff to the list as I remember it. (And check the Outlook archives on TIFFANY to see if there's anything from March or whenever that still needs to be on there.)

Meanwhile, here's the list.

  1. Order a new PDA

  2. Pick up the new PDA

  3. Get more "Wellness" canned for Buddha

  4. Laundry

  5. Write SJ scripts for 01/07/08 - 01/18/08

  6. Draw SJ for 01/07 and 01/09

  7. Take load to Salvation Army

  8. Take exercise bike to same

  9. Organize Bowflex room

  10. Reinstall/configure iTrainer

  11. Get wall calendar for work

  12. Dover "Set Cheer" button

  13. Printing for either Cake Portfolio or individual prints (package deal sale?)

  14. Rooming arrangements for AC

  15. Carpe Diem pages

What am I forgetting, those of you out there who might know?

I remember when the PDA market went to pieces. It came about because it all went to smartphones now.

For me, the defining moment was when Sony pulled out of the U.S. PDA market ... about three months after I bought my Clié. D'Oh!

It was the same with me, just that was right before I wanted to go Clie so I sat it out and went smartphone later.

Buddha doesn't approve of worldly attachments, I take it.

From what I remember the start attribute was moved into CSS.

Not much else to comment on; although, I think you posted the list a while back.

More like, Buddha wanted to sit on my desk and didn't care what got in his way. :D

There is a CSS hack to work around it -- but it's kludgey and not any more "official" than just using the deprecated attribute ... so for most purposes it's just easier to use the attribute.

At some point when I've got a few minutes I'll probably scan old entry titles. I tend to post the TMTDL in the weeks leading up to conventions.

Just like most cats; although, mine has been good about climbing on stuff.

That explains why I never got it to work quite right. I had just assumed it was poorly supported.

My check of June 2007 didn't reveal anything enlightening, but you'd probably have better luck since you know what subjects you would have used.

Can I get dibs on a roomshare for AC?

I suspect that can be arranged. ;) Unless something changes the situation, I'm going to be aiming for a similar arrangement to last time.

You didn't mention uploading your backed-up files from your old PDA to your new one. But I suppose that's because it's obvious that you *did* back everything up religiously, so that the loss of the PDA itself was not a complete catastrophe. :)

That's because...

A little accident involving Buddha, a frappuccino, and the synch cradle prevented me from doing any backups all summer

Good heavens, we're in winter now, sir! Surely that statement was an ironic musing about a past delay, not something still going on!

I'll warn you that NOTHING today will live up to the Clié for a PDA. My broken one still sits in my office as a sad reminder of what I'm missing. I don't know how many PDAs I tried before getting one and not a one really satisfied me. I think the one you are looking at is good but just be ready for great disappointment compared to the Clié as you start to use it.

I may be old school but I like keeping my PDA and phone separate regardless what others may say about convenience and usability. Besides from my experience we still have a long way to go for the type of battery life I'd need for the two to be in one package.
