I like him, I think: he looks more like the initial designs of the character, is definitely the most toony of the bunch (in a good way, the kind of toony I want), and is the most visually pleasing. So we can stick a fork in him, he's done. On to...
Oswald J. Proboscis, the founder and CEO of MegaHuge ConGloMaCo! He's only ever appeared once, here:
But he seems like a nice enough chap, in a huge-and-powerful-industry-mogul sort of way, so he's about due for a repeat performance. Fortunately, the earlier design isn't too bad, really, he just needs to be updated a little. Popping in Disney's Robin Hood for a kickoff point, I came up with this:
On the whole, I'm pretty pleased with it, although it does need a little work. The one-horn version in particular is too cheerful and friendly ... Oswald is more of a sly, gears-always-turning type. Take a look at the second and third panels of the original comic -- I can just hear the spider saying, "Come into my parlor!" The two-horn version I drew tonight looks like he just found out his son is in trouble at school again ... I can feel the sigh from here. But it's a good model for Oswald, I just need to find the right expression to put on his face.
Man, drawing is fun! I forget that sometimes. :)
Oh well, it's back to work for me, now. I've got to ink next Friday's tonight, so I can stay ahead!
