Saving Mankind From Extinction: No Charge

Finished re-listening to Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency this morning. If you count listening to the audiobook as "reading" a book, this will be something like the 8th time I've read it.

As frustrating an author as Adams can be [1], he was still brilliant, and it is my firm opinion that this book is far and away his best. It certainly seems to distill the essence of the man far more than any of his others, right down to his computer wonkery and zealous interest in preserving endangered species.

[1] His gimmicky habit of tossing out vague and offhand mentions of extremely important plot points, often offstage, or referring to "the dim figure who now entered" without actually telling you who it was, has a tendency to drive me up the wall.

It's a habit he shared with Raymond Chandler, so I can forgive it :)

Well, I can forgive it too, which is why it's a footnote. ;)

is this an audiobook or a dramatization? iTunes seems to feature a dramatization, at $17.95 for about 3 hours 37 minutes.

This was the audiobook version, read by Adams. The dramatization is probably the BBC 4 radio version, which I'll be getting on CD when it comes out (August, IIRC). :)
