I Love Being Proved Wrong :)

From gamera_spinning:

The first seven minutes of Speed Racer! :D

Remember my prediction that the Mach 5 would get trashed, making way for the "new, improved" Mach 6 in the big finish? Totally wrong. "Mach 6" is what Speed starts out in.

The Mach 5 itself does make an appearance in the opening here, but not in the context you might expect. Given how much footage of the Mach 5 is in the trailer, maybe the Mach 6 is the one that gets trashed? We'll see. Still, I love having my dire predictions thwarted! :D

PS: Assuming the beginning race isn't a flash-forward, of course. ;P

Well, the morning paper here certainly didn't think highly of it, and it's not doing well over at Rotten Tomatoes, either...

Well, 'undertuning' (sacrificing power in exchange for increased control) IS a legitimate racing strategy, and judging from the way that #6 seemed to be sliding around that track...

I've never had the slightest interest in Speed Racer before... but that makes me wanna see it!

The movie release even got me perusing the anime selection at Best Buy, still didn't find any Speed Racer or Star Blazers. :P

I've seen the Speed Racer DVDs in BestBuy. You might wanna look in the Anime or the Cartoon sections. Might also be hidden in the TV section as well, but more likely the Anime section. Haven't seen Star Blazers though.

They've both been released, but you might have to go mail-order.

The original Speed Racer manga has been re-released as well. :D

I did check the anime section, since there's a sale going on with those. Strangely enough, I did find one of my favorite old series, Bravestarr.

Potential spoiler
***SPOILER WARNING***

Maybe a little spoiler, but he starts and finishes in a Mach 6, seems that the 6s are track cars, but the 5 series are rally cars.

***SPOILER END***

Re: Potential spoiler
Pfui. In the old days, Mach 5 took on both types of race and we liked it that way! ;P

Re: Potential spoiler
I'm not arguing the point. Unless I'm mistaken I recall some discussion on your LJ about Mach 5 and Mach 6. Mach 5's much more like the original show, especially after Inspector Detector's posse gets under the hood. The Mach 6 is more like a formula 1, single seat, seriously reinforced suspension. Jumping jacks, but that seems to be just about the only mod that I noticed the 6s using.

Oh, when you go, be prepared to keep on the ball for the first hour, they tend to switch up a bit between past, present and future events.

If looking for "Star Blazers" , ask for "Space Cruiser Yamato" and you might get better results.

Hey, we're talking about Best Buy here, you just about have to get an act of congress to get someone that works there to help you.

Woah. Nice way to add the original Mach 5 to the movie. I approve.

And on another note... remind me that if I go see this movie, I go on an empty stomach. I think I got motion sickness while watching Speed sit at his desk.

Mach 5 vs. Mach 6
It's been years since I saw the cartoon, but I do recall the Mach 5 was the most advanced car Racer Industries ( Okay, "Pop's" ) built.

I think you may be correct though in that the Mach 5 (with the rotary dials on the center of the steering wheel) is what we see, and the new & improved version is the Mach 6. As to which has gotten trashed, well, Speed (Cartoon Speed that is) banged up the Mach 5 enough as it is. So, I think we'll just have to see the movie to find out which is which here.

At least, from the trailers I've seen they've gotten someone to speak-in-a-clipped-form like Racer X ("..,who is actually Speed's older brother Rex who left home many years ago,.."). It also appears that they've included "The Mammoth Truck" from the cartoon.

Say Gneech? Any thoughts of spoofing this movie in SJ (Like Dover as the driver - Cheetahs love speed)?

Re: Mach 5 vs. Mach 6
Are you kidding? I did that eight years ago! ;)

The actor playing Racer X also plays Jack on Lost, for any Lost-ies out there. :)

I don't actually think the truck in the trailers is The Mammoth Car (from the episode of the same name), so much as a little easter egg -ish appearance for fans. However, not having seen the flick yet, I could be mistaken.
