I learned to love Javascript ever since I found a way to stuff code into a bookmark and bypass some painfully slow code on a client's internal website.

Apparently, it was a marketing deal between Sun and Netscape. Netscape agreed to change the name of Livescript to "Javascript" in exchange for bundling Navigator with Sun's JVM.

Some frameworks and prototypes make it a LOT more palatable than it was in 2001. But yeah, its roots are still steeped in masochism, and 2008 javascript still feels like lipstick on TCL.
