I've never actually been north of Northern New York state (Albany area). I've always wanted to visit New England, just not necessarily in the deepest part of winter. ;)

unless you are into skiing, the dead of winter isn't the best time. Anytime between late spring to mid-fall is good, though. Ben & Jerry's factory tour is a fun one. There's lots of historical this n' that, like the von trapp family lodge (rebuilt after burning down once, but it's the design and location of where the original family felt most at home after fleeing the nazis)

Leaf peeping is wonderful in the fall. Beaches, sailing, fishing, etc is popular in the summer, lots of mountains to hike, parks to visit.

6_6 lots of maple syrup to bring home.
