Battlerager Vigor Each time an enemy hits you with a melee or a close attack, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Con mod (after the attack is resolved). When you gain temporary hit points by hitting with an attack that has the "invigorating" keyword, those temporary hit points stack with any other temporary hit points you already have. When wearing light armor or chainmail, you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls with melee and close weapon attacks whenever you have temporary hit points. This bonus increases to +2 if you're wielding an axe, hammer, mace, or pick. (MP 6)
Bell Ringer (Encounter, Fighter Attack 1, Invigorating) As a standard action, make a Str vs. Fort attack. On hit: the target is dazed until the end of your next turn. If you are wielding an axe, a hammer, or a mace, the attack deals damage equal to your Con mod. (MP 7)
Cleave (At-Will, Fighter Attack 1) As a standard action, make a Str vs AC attack. On hit: 1[W] + Str mod, and an enemy adjacent to you takes damage equal to your Str mod. (PH 77)
Combat Challenge Every time you attack an enemy, you can choose to mark that target. The mark lasts until the end of your next turn. while is a target is marked, it takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls for any attack that doesn't include you as a target. In addition, whenever a marked enemy that is adjacent to you shifts or makes an attack that doesn't include you, you can make a melee basic attack against that enemy as an immediate interrupt. (PH 76)
Combat Superiority You gain a bonus to opportunity attacks equal to your Wisdom modifier. An enemy struck by your opportunity attack stops moving, if a move provoked the attack. If it still has actions remaining, it can use them to resume moving. (PH 76)
Ferocious When bloodied, you gain a +1 racial bonus to attack rolls.
Footwork Lure (At-Will, Fighter Attack 1) As a standard action, make a Str vs. AC attack. On hit: 1[W] + Str mod damage, you can shift 1 square and slide the target into the space you just left. (MP 7)
Imposing Size Lion anthros are on the cusp between medium- and large-size creatures. As such, they take up a 2x2 space and may treat large one-handed weapons as if they were medium versatile weapons.
Knee Breaker (Daily, Fighter Attack 1, Invigorating) As a standard action, make a Str vs. AC attack. On hit: 2[W] + Str mod damage and target is slowed (save ends). If target is already slowed, target is immobilized instead (save ends). If you're wielding an axe, hammer, or mace,, the attack deals extra damage equal to your Con mod. On miss: 1/2 damage and target is not slowed or immobilized. (MP 9)
Lionheart You get a +1 racial bonus to Will saves; in addition you get a +5 racial bonus to resist fear effects.
Mighty Roar You can use "Mighty Roar" as an encounter power.
Mighty Roar (Lion Racial Power)

Battlerager Vigor got nerfed in the July? errata release. Basically the new version is that when you make a melee attack hit or miss you get your temp hitpoints. If you use an invigorating power you gain them and if you hit get the stacking ones on top. Too many people complained on the forums about it being uber.... and truthfully it was a little on the too nice side. (I have a battlerager minotaur fighter)

I'm not sure I follow. Does that mean the "When wearing light armor or chainmail, you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls with melee and close weapon attacks whenever you have temporary hit points. This bonus increases to +2 if you're wielding an axe, hammer, mace, or pick." part is removed?

The following is the new text as of July's errata:

Whenever you hit an enemy with a melee or a close
attack, you gain temporary hit points equal to your
Constitution modifier, plus any temporary hit points
normally granted by the power.
If you use an invigorating fighter attack power
and miss every target with it, you gain temporary hit
points equal to your Constitution modifier.
When wearing light armor or chainmail, you gain
a +1 bonus to damage rolls with melee and close
weapon attacks whenever you have temporary hit
points. This bonus increases to +2 if you’re wielding
an axe, a hammer, a mace, or a pick.

So now it's when you hit them, not when they hit you. Interesting.

However, if you miss with an invigorating power you still gain temp hit points. Essentially, they only want you gaining them once per round rather than with each melee hit upon yourself equating to a "resist con mod".

Honestly, I think Mighty Roar and Hunter's Haze seem a bit overpowered...

How about these instead ?

Mighty Roar - Anthro {Lion} Racial
You open your mouth with a roar to establish your dominance of the area, leaving your foes trembling in their boots.
Encounter • Fear
Minor Action     Close blast 5
Target: All enemies in the area
Attack: (Int, Wis, or Cha)+2 vs. Will (select one when character is created)
Hit: Target takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of your next turn.
Increase to +4 bonus and -3 penalty at 11th level, and to +6 bonus and -4 penalty at 21st level.

Echoing Roar
Prereq.: Lion
Benefit: Targets effected by your mighty roar grant combat advantage to you and your allies.

Hunter's Resilience
Prereq.: Lion
Benefit: When you become bloodied, you may spend a healing surge as an immediate reaction.

Hunter's Haze
Prereq.: Lion
Benefit: While you are bloodied, you gain a +1 bonus to melee damage rolls.

Paragon Tier

Hunter's Resolve
Prereq.: Lion, Hunter's Resilience
Benefit: When you are reduced to 0 hp, you may spend a healing surge as an immediate reaction.

Ok, that last one might be a bit too much...

I don't see that Mighty Roar is all that different; I left off the +2 to balance the lasting multiple rounds ... your version removes the damage penalty and potentially shortens the duration, but also adds the +2 back in.

As for the others, whatever works. I wasn't actually planning to take them for Arshan in any case, I just wrote them up in case sirfox wanted to use them for lion NPCs.

Eh, I'm a hopeless min/max'er and the thought of a racial that can give an attack penalty that lasts for 5 rounds just seems a little overpowered, I've been in many combats that don't last that long, and have been the DM with the monsters that have -8 to attack anyone... it gets annoying.

Actually, now that you mention it, part of the reason I initially came up with a "penalty to attack" was that my first draft had a racial AC penalty for size, and the Mighty Roar was intended to be a mitigation for that. The idea was that it would give the lion a small effective bonus while it lasted, and then they'd go back to having a penalty.

But then, looking through the 4E books, I couldn't find any indication that there were penalties for size in 4E, so I wrote that out, and didn't change Mighty Roar to match.

I dunno, I'll talk it over w/ sirfox and see what he says.

Very cool.

This is why I wish I was close enough to get in your group's games. The local groups only play Living campaigns, so I figure the chance of me getting a legal minotaur is less than none and getting an anthro horse would be even worse.

Interesting...
A friend and I were working on anthro races about the same time in '09, and what you came up with for the lion is eerily similar to what we eventually settled on, right down to the names of some of the racial traits. I'm currently testing the races in a soon to be podcast game.

The major difference our great cat race has is that they remained medium size. The Lionheart ability is present but in the form of a save bonus against fear effects. The roar power we gave them is remarkably similar. The racial stat bonuses are identical, though I believe the skill bonuses we gave them were different. Only other thing we gave them was a bonus to maintain grabs and some feats for charge attacks.

I'm very interested to see what else you might have come up with. Any other anthro races by chance?

Re: Interesting...
No, sorry, we ended up abandoning 4E for Pathfinder. sirfox did a whole treatment for playing anthros in 3.x, but we haven't done anything much with it since the edition change.

Re: Interesting...
Glad to hear you're enjoying Paizo's treatment of 3.5. It's a great system. I'll have to go knock on Mr. sirfox's door and ask if I can borrow a cup of racial stat blocks. I have some friends who would be very happy to see them.

Hya! Prod me at my gmail address - Tentaclefriendly

I can share the stuff i came up with. It's in need of some revision, mostly on stats and modifier / ability blocks to keep them balanced. Right now it's workable, but probably horribly easy to be munchkin'd.
