Methuselah Just *Wishes* He Was That Old

From the_monkey_king: The Oldest Living Things in the World

At least one of those things, and I'll let you discover which, is eight times older than the human race.

I feel humble today.

A lot of very impressive and interesting pictures. Thank you!

I'm curious as to what value you're using for the age of the human race.

I grabbed 50,000 years as a number that's stuck in my head there, I don't remember the source. When I say "the human race," I'm thinking of homo sapiens specifically. If you count somebody like Ardi as being human, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.

According to Wikipedia, homo sapiens emerged something like 200,000 years ago, in which case my "eight times" is way off. The bacteria specimen is only twice as old as the human race. ;P

But keep in mind, this is a blog, not a book. For print, I'd have checked my references. ;)

No problem, I was just curious -- and I thought I might have missed one of the pictures.

It's definitely an area where different authorities have different numbers, from six thousand to six million years or so.
