Looking at our budget, our lifestyles, and various other factors, laurie_robey are probably going to trade in Bruce and the Platinum Pearl on a new (single) car. We went over to Carmax tonight and tried a few on; right now the front-runner for me is a 2009 Nissan Murano, although Laurie said she was more comfortable in the 2007 Honda Odyssey. We're going to try a 2009-model Odyssey on Sunday, as well.

I was kinda jonesin' for a Toyota FJ Cruiser, just 'cause they're so much fun to look at, but visibility was poor and Laurie felt cramped in it. Too bad, I was hoping for 8-12 years of sustained Godzilla jokes.

More updates when decisions are made and papers are signed.

Go Nissan!
but I wonder what the heck you'd get for Bruce...

good luck! If they have any Nissan Cubes, sit in one of those for me and let me know what you think about the passenger side, k?...(laugh)

How about a Subaru?

Or, a Toyota RAV-4 (They have the built in Bluetooth for any phone).

Subarus tend to be outside our price range, alas.

EDIT: That Honda Pilot comment didn't make any sense, did it? It's early. :P

My parents have a 2007 Honda Odyssey. So far, there haven't been any mechanical or electrical problems in two years of running, and the eco-drive feature can really cut down on gas (moreso with highway driving than city, but you take what you get, right?). The only issue that I've found with them is that if it's around -40, it has a very hard times starting. I suspect because you don't live in the ninth circle of hell, that won't be a problem. Although I have to admit, doing doughnuts on Cocytus is a lot of fun!

Our personal experience with Nissan has been quite good - My father, brother and myself all have Maximas. Not quite as fun as one might like, but very reliable. The only thing that has gone wrong with them were a starter going, and incompetant mechanics pinching the wires from the O2 sensors after a brake job, and then trying to charge us 2,000 for three new sensors.

I always liked the FJ Cruiser myself, but I'm ready to go back to car...tired of having an SUV while living in the land of compact spaces...
