Murano GET!

I held back manly tears as I took Bruce on one final drive around to the back of the Carmax dealership and gave him a solemn salute for 13 years of honorable service. As a tribute, we transferred his plates to the Murano, who, sensing the gravitas of the moment, pledged itself to hold up the tradition. So we're thinking of naming it "Bruce Jr."

Bruce performed one last service for us, getting $700 more in trade than we thought we were likely to get. Between him and the Camry, we got the Murano for a buying price of $20,298 (plus tags, taxes, and fees) -- I was a little worried that we were going to be arrested on the way home for getting such a steal. ;)

We had been talking about some kind of vanity plates, but honestly, knowing those are Bruce's plates on the Murano just makes me happy. I think I'll keep 'em. :)

Thank you, Bruce! And good on ya! Farewell, Camry! You were everything an affordable commuter should be!

And welcome to the family, (not yet officially-named) Murano!

I had the hardest time throwing out any sort of appliance ever since I saw "The Brave Little Toaster" as a kid. My parents would have to wait until I was asleep in order to toss anything out without me putting up some kind of fuss, so I know where you're coming from. I hope the Murano works well for you.

I hope you do meet GMLD one day...
and have her tell you the story of the waffle iron!

I've only heard a few stories about her, but she sounds like a lot of fun!

she tells the story better than I do.

While the house is clean and tidy, it's a testament to their hobbies/packratdom. Visitors are allowed at their own peril...(grin)

I am reminded of a certain Monty Python skit. New Bruce? Just as long as there isn't a case of Brucellosis.

I was thinking of "New Bruce," just to keep it cleah.

Bruce will find a good place at a lemon lot...
and some kid/mechanic will buy him and fix him up very well...

that's a Virginia thing---in California, you can't transfer non-vanity plates that way. Generally, you must leave at least one with the car and front/back plates are required for valid registration.

You know how I feel about Nissans/Datsuns. Did it come with the original owners manual? It should be a nice thick book encased in leather.

I'm pretty sure there's an owner's manual in the glove compartment, but we haven't actually had a chance to check yet. 'twas a late night!

Re: Bruce will find a good place at a lemon lot...
That weirded me out upon moving to Minnesota, finding that the plates stayed with the car rather than with the owner, as is the case in Wisconsin. After going a few places and needing to log the plate at motels and not remembering it I gave in and got callsign (Amateur Radio) plates. I don't forget my callsign.

I have the same option here in California, but I'd want to properly use my ham license first...(grin). I also would have to give up my palm trees, which look good on my white 240SX (AKA the vaselinemobile)

So... vanity plates huh?

What's it gonna say? Something for Leonard Lion; Conrad; Dover;... Drezzer?! (ah.. probably not Drezzer).

"Gneech" on the plate? How about "WATRGHOLE"?

Don't know about Virgina, but North Carolina is limited to 8 digits. Maybe WATRGHOL?

No SJ vanity plates, thanks. :) Even I don't like to toot my own horn that much!

We wanted "AFK BRB", but it was taken. But I think we're probably going to stick with Bruce's plates. :)

Congrats!

Crikey, 13 years. How many miles did Bruce have?

117K roughly, in part because we stopped driving him as much once we got the Camry. Much as I loved ol' Bruce, he was a gas guzzler. And after the accident, he also had a tendency to leak in the rain.

How do you know the Murano isn't a Brucette?

We don't, yet. The GPS certainly has a feminine voice.

A salute to Bruce, or, has it really been thirteen years?
SALESMAN

Here's a car now; this skull has been driven
three and ten years.

HAMLET

Whose was it?

SALESMAN

A whoreson mad fellow's it was: whose do you think it was?

HAMLET

Nay, I know not.

SALESMAN

A fair-dinkum mad rougue! A comic artist
who writes a fair deal on the side. This same car,
sir, was Gneech's car, by the name, Bruce.

HAMLET

This?

SALESMAN
E'en that.

HAMLET

Let me see.

Takes the keys

Alas, poor Bruce! I knew him, Horatio: a vehicle
of infinite vroom, of most excellent fancy: he hath
borne me in his seats a thousand times; and now, how
abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at
it. Here hung those fuzzy dice that I have batted I know
not how oft. Where be your tunes now? your
honking? your songs? your flashes of brights,
that were wont to set a man's eyes to the night? Not one
zoom, to burst forth into the night? quite chap-fallen?
Now get you to my lady's garage, and tell her, let
her paint a bright flame, to this favour she must
come; make her laugh at that.
