Somebody @ Starbucks is Stuck on "Suck"

Y'know, when I first started going to Starbucks, they had a lot of stuff that I liked. Over the years, item by item, they've been systematically getting rid of everything I liked and replacing it with crap.

This morning I just got an e-mail that they're going to muck around with frappuccinos, one of the last things they haven't yet screwed up and the main thing I go there for.

Do they just not want me as a customer, or what?

A Rocko quote this early in the morning? You think a lot will get it?

I wasn't aware I was making one. Who's Rocko?

I'd be amazed that you're not aware of him. Rocko, from Rocko's Modern Life. There was an episode where he bought a giant vacuum cleaner and it went out of control sucking everything into it. He couldn't switch it off, he screamed "Oh no! It's stuck in suck!"

Hmm. I've heard the name "Rocko's Modern Life," I assume it's a TV show. :)

I got "stuck on suck" from tygercowboy, who occasionally refers to people around him as being "stuck on stupid."

Hasn't happened with Sbux, but I can safely say I seem to be a similar "curse" on some products...

What do you expect from a company based in Seattle, and constantly trying to be "hip" all the time? They are going to try to stay a head of any curve that they see on the horizon.

Au contraire, mo frair... you really should try Tuilly's or Seattle's Best. Both of them are far superior to Starbucks, who has burnt their beans every day since they first opened on Pike Place. The flavor of the other two seattle coffee companies is such that, if you had them once, you'd never want to go back.

Seattle's Best also uses real apple cider for their hot caramel apple spice, which more than makes up for the oversaturation of caramel that Starbucks does.

I don't know about Tuilly's, but Seattle's Best is owned by Starbucks.

Awk! What evil is this? *Looks it up on Wikipedia* Well, I'll be darned! I am relieved, at least, that the sale of Seattle Coffee Company (the parent company) to Starbucks happened in 2003, after I ceased to drink caffinated beverages. When I became a fan in 1999, they were still a separate coffee purveyor.

out of curiosity, what are they mucking about?

I stopped getting them and switched over to a hot drink because it was less of a pain to get what i wanted.

You couldn't do fat-free fraps without also having diet sweetener (my kryptonite) so it was a constant struggle, getting them to use half frap mix and half skim milk... Now i get just a nonfat latte instead.

The changes described were vague; it was an online survey they sent me trying to figure out the price-point for adding a shot of espresso in their "New! Improved!" frappuccino plan.

But for me, any change to the frappuccino can only be a bad thing, as I like them as they are.

Same thing happened north of the border as well. At Tim Horton's , all the products were made onsite, then cooked as needed. Someone in Toronto decided it was more economical to mass produce everything there, then ship it out to the stores, where it would be cooked/baked/boiled, etc.
A lot of the freshness is gone from the doughnuts. and thats not a good thing.

Is Starbucks becoming the Joss Whedon of coffeehouses?

*Dry* Believe me, dude - the loss ain't yours. Starbucks has sucked for a long, long, long time. And they never were cheap enough to justify it.

I decided to stop having Starbucks when I could distinctly taste coffee in my Caramel Apple Spice. I get that because it's one of the very few non-caffinated hot drinks I can purchase in this overcaffinated state. And they had clearly added a shot of espresso. Thanks for poisoning me, Starbucks!

Have you tried Caribou Coffee? There is one in the Dulles Town Center. I can't speak for the coffee, but their Chia Tea latte is better than Starbucks.

Used to be I could go to any Starbucks and they'd all be a little different. Now, they're all the same - and not a single one of them have the swiss cheese croissants I used to get until sometime in 2001.
