Okay dude.

You're in a 10'x10' room. There's an Orc. He is carrying a pie.

What do you do?

It depends. Do I have initiative?

And for that matter, do I have any hit points?

No, you're playing Amber!

Muhahahahaha!

Oh, that's easy then. I make up a bunch of nonsensical junk at the orc and feel superior about it. ;)

Oh no, you inflicted mental damage to the Orc, who will now have to spend years with a therapist! How cruel and uncaring...

Also, you find 7 gold pieces.

You have the full normal hit points for a first-level character.

Let's see. *Rolls*
Nope, you got a 1 and the orc got a 7.

"Hullo freeend," slurs the Orc with a cheery wave. "Would you like some not-poisoned pie?"

Make a perception check.

Well, lessee, assuming a barbarian, that'd be 14+ hit points and a +1 Perception (at most) check, which isn't likely to perceive much. So I ready an action and when the orc gets within reach, I brain him with my axe.

*Roll* Another 1.

Man! That pie looks good.

Seeing you ready your weapon, the Orc shoves his fist into the crush and unsheathes his deadly orcish pie-blade, dripping with what you can only assume to be delicious bramley apple-sauce.

He slowly circles around the room as the GM starts playing an MP3 of the Amok Time fight music for mood.

Well, at least he wasn't lying about the poison...

*Roll* 15! A palpable hit! Take five points of damage and "smeared with tangy apple sauce" (Save Ends).

*Rolls* Another 1! Oh woeful day! The third in a row! The GM will have to see about using another dice.

The orc cagily moves about as the MP3 gets to the bit where McCoy shouts something and the GM hurriedly stops the recording, accidentally playing a snatch of Hotel California.

What do you do?

Audit the dice, for starters!

The Orc and you wait patiently as the GM retires his old jumbo dice, which he doesn't want to roll too hard lest it damage the table, and takes out one of the traditional red set.

19, 12, 15, 17, 15... This one seems too good. The GM will set that aside for use in future games!

Speckled Purple... 13, 10, 16, 4, 4... Seems okay.

While you've been sitting in here, you notice both you and the orc are breathing a little heavily, even considering the deadly battle you were engaged in.

I wish! I really miss gaming with you guys.

On the bright side, my gaming group is re-starting its Sorcerers Crusade chronicle again next week.

Still, I recently got the new 6th Edition HERO rules tomes, and wished I could game with you, Laurie and Jen again.

Miss y'all!

Weekend day 5 begins tomorrow. I would want to game too, but I have a cold and don't even want to open my eyes.
