The Internet. Oy.

I'd like to state for the record that thinking a "GLBT Zombie Anthology" is a silly idea does not make you a homophobe. Same for Transformers slash.

I don't know, a GLBT Zombie anthology would be a bit too close to reality for me considering how dead some of my relationships have been in the past.

And of course, I had to look it up after I got home...

"Oh Megatron... your cannon is so BIG."
"Yes, now let me change into a gun so you can hold me in your powerful yet warm hands."

... what? this exists? *goes back to bed hoping this is a dream*

Well, it doesn't exist, but it was in production and got yanked for unspecified reasons. And there are a lot of unhappy campers about that.

Obviously someone has some good taste...

If that was all that was at work, it wouldn't be a problem. But the publisher's editor's announcement suggested that they were pulling it because some of the authors (?!) objected to homosexual themes. So it's this giant ball of drama.

I got tangentally involved in a conversation about it and basically said, "What's the point of a GLBT zombie anthology anyway? How does sexual preference relate to not getting your brains eaten?" and got roasted for somehow hating GLBT characters and wanting to prevent them from ever appearing in fiction. :P

Silly intarwebs.

Why does this announcement sound like it was made to drum up controversy.

That said I agree there doesn't seem to be a point unless the GLBT situation is the plot hook... such as being GLBT makes the person immune from the zombie plague (well outside of getting ripped apart by the hoards of undead) but that just sounds stupid

Yes, thank you! That's exactly the point I was trying to make, but all I got was "I want stories about people like MEEEEEE! Why you trying to exclude us???"

I really shouldn't talk though. I mean I did write a book about a gay furry superhero...

Feb. 11th, 2010 09:17 pm (UTC)

Feb. 11th, 2010 07:34 pm (UTC)

Then I have done my good deed for the day!

I'm a gay guy who really agrees with you. GLBT zombie stories? Considering that it's a hallmark of many zombie stories to have characters killed off... GLBT zombie stories themselves could be accused of being homophobic. *rolls eyes* Honestly people.

And not liking slash is not, in the least, similar to being homophobic either. Speaking as someone who doesn't like slash either.

Rule #1: Some people are idiots.
Rule #2: See Rule #1.

Transformers slash? Silly? Tell that to the robosexuals.

One of the first things I thought of after reading your post.

Hm. I guess there's some potential depth with the GLBT zombie thing, as one of the facets of zombie apocalypse scenarios is the eventual need to re-populate the species, and being gay/lesbian doesn't exactly parlay well into that. That'd almost make it more of an anti-GLBT thing, though, and I don't think you could possibly stretch that aspect far enough to make an "anthology" out of it anyway.

I prefer gay superhero stories, myself.
