Writer's Block: Brush with stardom

Have you ever stumbled across a celebrity in your daily life? Was it more or less exciting than you would have expected? Do you have any interest in meeting media stars?

Assuming deliberately meeting celebs at conventions doesn't count, my only "daily life" encounter that I recall was mammallamadevil and I leaving an Office Depot just as Colin Powell was coming in.

Given that no words were exchanged nor doors held in either direction, it was a pretty dull encounter.

As for meeting media stars, I've met a fair number over the years. Some have been great, some have been jerks. They's just people. :)

I sat next to Colin Mochrie at a casino for an hour playing cards. We would chat during shuffles , 3 other players and the dealer, and like you said, They's peoples.

Later, when I became a blackjack dealer, I dealt cards to Donald Sutherland ( the real THE DONALD) , and one late night I had Kirk Johnson ( heavyweight boxer) at the high stakes table. Didn't really notice him as I was too busy looking at the wooooooommmaaaaaannnnnn he had with him :O

I had lunch with George Takei once... :) It wasn't quite a convention encounter; he had arrived at the hotel we were having the convention at a day early, and several of us who were going to be working the con in various capacities had gone down to the same hotel that day to have a look around and get a feel for what was going to be going on where... well, once we finished up, I decided to just have lunch there at the hotel's cafe before leaving, and there was this Asian gentleman ahead of me in the buffet line who seemed oddly familiar, but I couldn't quite place him since, up to that moment, I'd never seen him outside of his Star Trek uniform... :)

Well, the most famous person I ever knew knew was local celebrity Fred Kirby who was a close family friend. I happened to meet a then-Governor Jimmy Carter when I was two(?) when he was stumping for President. A few years back I inadvertently passed Weird Al Yankovic at Carowinds, he was being escorted by security on a roller coaster just as I had gotten off, but me being my usual oblivious self didn't notice. And the last day of this past DragonCon, I called Ron Glass the devil to his face, he got a laugh out of it.

Only one fairly cool encounter. I ran into the Hulk Hogan at a local gas station. I wasn't even paying attention as I had just gotten off my bike and walked to the door and was texting so I held the door for the guy behind me. "thank you brother" he said. I was like wow thats wierd and I looked and he had the cool hogan hair. After a few moments of thought I worked up the courage and told him he was a dead ringer for the hulkster. He laughed and said that guy outside is a dead ringer for matt harding. I smiled and said well cool to meet you guys and paid for my drink and left. He seemed to be a pretty awesome guy and dealt with my little star struck suprise very well. Your right though their just people .
