Dear Whoever-the-Idiot-Was

Dear Whoever-the-Idiot-Was Who Put "The Secret of Monkey Special Edition" on Steam Instead of Releasing It as a Stand-Alone Game I Can Play Whenever I Want and Don't Need Their Damn Website:

I hate you.

Sincerely,
John "The Gneech" Robey

It's not letting me access it. The game just says "Steam is not available, try again later."

I had this problem with Portal for quite some time, then one day it fixed itself after I installed another game.

There must be a setting in there somewhere for "I never, ever, under any circumstances, want to play this game online."

I think the problem comes up when you get an update over the internet, but are in off-line mode when you next run the game. The game files need to be unlocked again following an update, and it has to get an online key exchange to do that.

It's not just with offline-mode games, either. My copy of Audiosurf breaks every time the Steam engine updates. Select the game, click properties, then under the "local files" tab, click "verify integrity of game cache..." That should fix the problem.

I haven't had a problem with Steam since I went to a broadband connection. It sucks for dialup, but I've had no issues with it recently.
