Writer's Block: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Do you give your vehicles names? If so, what are they?

Our current car is "New Bruce," named after my previous car, an Outback named "Bruce." Previous cars in my life have included "The Platinum Pearl," "The Invisible-Colored Aries," "Tan Van," and "Blue Van." My wife has owned "Chester" and "Oscar."

I also name my computers. The current one is "Mach 5." The previous one was "Gort," and the one before that was "Tiffany."

I also occasionally name my homes. The current one is "The Hobbit Hole." The one where I grew up was "Ogdenland" (although my brother named that one).

I don't name vehicles, and I doubt I ever will.. most of my friends do though, so I've driven around in Brucey, the 2-door compact with fuzzy dice on the rear-view, and Baby, short for Poor Baby, the car which ended up totalled :P

However, my current computer is Mephistopheles, my laptop/old main computer is Arioch, and my usb thumb drives are Troll and Ogre.

My desktop was Veronica (before her hard drives went to the server in the sky) and my current laptop is William (since I want to get back into writing again).

I had a Cougar I called "Baby" and we called my SUV the "Thirsty Beast". Current car has no name, but I'm tempted to call it "Old Reliable", as it has about 160k miles on it and it's still running strong at going on 14 years old.

My computer is called "Lazarus". Because it comes back from the dead occasionally.

I don't think it's a real name, but I called the vehicle two cars back "the crap car" because it was broken and shabby in so many ways.

And I don't think this a real name either, but my new car has my gamer tag on the plates... it says Boursin. But I call it "my midlife crisis car".

does the iPad have a name yet?

Actually, the iPad in and of itself doesn't have enough personality to warrant a name. The "get out of the way and straight to the apps" philosophy of the iPhoneOS makes it very easy to work in, but also turns the actual device more or less invisible.

Well, my late grandfather's old '64 Ford F-100 was the Chug-Chug Truck. My first vehicle was a 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit that ended up being called Lazarus's Rabbit because it was breaking down all the time and while I owned it, it spent more time in garages than operating on the road. My Firebird didn't get a name but my '98 Dodge Dakota (pictured), my first reliable set of wheels, goes by the moniker of White Stallion.
