Why Are People Getting This Wrong? >.

Okay, look:

“PEAK” is the top of something, usually a mountain.

“PEEK” is a quick, furtive look at something.

So if you SNEAK PEAK, you are stealthily climbing to the top of a mountain. If you are getting an illicit preview of something, that is a SNEAK PEEK.

Please stop getting this wrong. It is beginning to walk up and down on my spine.

Thank you.

-The Gneech

Edit: And of course, I get a typo of my own. Pfui! That’s how thrown off I was. Bad grammar is contagious! Stop using it!

Read in a national magazine last week about someone trying to "eek" out a living when just entering the workforce.
Unless he was wearing a large rodent costume at a certain pizza place or at a theme park in Florida, I think they meant "eke".

The one that drives me insane is the constant confusion of "loose" vs. "lose".

YES! ME TOO! AAAARGH! They're not even PRONOUNCED the same, people!

That, and people writing "phase" when they should be writing "faze". And "stripped" for "striped". A stripped couch sounds very uncomfortable to sit on.

My particular pet peeve:

"Dogs" is plural. "Dog's" is possessive. "Dogs'" is both. First grade English, people. I knew better at age seven.

How about if you Sneak Peak Peek? :=3

The one that drives me up the wall is "then" and "than".
A certain NY living lion gets them confused all the time when he is writing. :=/

When I think of "Sneak Peak" I think of Butt-head saying "I have seen the top of the mountain... and it is good." ^^

Isn't English such a lovely language that way. For a lot of words it's clear cut as to the difference in meaning. For others it's not. That's why I can't cast a stone at anyone.

I constantly struggle with "then" and "than". (Hmm, didn't someone else just mention that?) I even keep a slip by the computer when writing.

"then" is a time connector (earlier THEN later)
"than" is a comparator (bigger THAN..., smaller THAN...)

But I still look at some sentences and see shades of gray making me guess which to use. Thank goodness for those who will read my stuff and point out my errors.

What bugs me is people saying someone's curiosity was "peeked" or "peaked". It is PIQUED, people!
But yeah, all of those similar errors bug me. A lot.
