Steamcycle Study

Steamcycle StudyAs some of you may know, my new comic took a lot of inspiration from the “Steamcycle” pic done by Leo Magna … which he has graciously given me permission to use. In the comic, it will be Fagin’s ride of choice, and features pretty prominently in the first issue, so I figured I’d better figure out how the thing works! So this is what I came up with.

Let me just say … complex design is complex. O.o

Original pic, for those interested.

if there was some mechanism in the armature between the wheel and the main body that served as a compressed spring, the whole thing could conceivably be able to jump a fair height/distance, besides being just a shock absorber. Heck, absorbing shocks with a racheting mechanism would store the power that winds up the spring for another leap, and only having one every so often would make it a workable plot device.

Hmm. *ponders* Do stunt cyclists do a little "bounce" on their jumps to get more air?

Stunt riders push down on the front forks before a jump to give the bike some upwards momentum as they go into a hop/jump
