Okay, Poll Time! :D

Just a little customer satisfaction survey ... this one is about Convention Art!

If don't do conventions, or you just don't buy art at conventions, by all means don't worry about responding -- I forgive you! ;)

Have you ever commissioned a badge/sketch from me at a convention?

If you have...

1) Did you feel like you got what you asked for?

2) Did you feel like you got your money's worth?

3) Did my prices seem fair?

4) Did the item exceed your expectations in any way?

5) If there was something you weren't happy with about the item, did you tell me about it?

If you haven't...

1) Is there a particular factor that made you choose not to? Art style? Subject matter? Price? The queue was full before you got to my table? I've never been to the one con you ever go to? (Don't worry about hurting my feelings here ... when it comes to this stuff, I'm quite thick-skinned.)

2) Is there a specific thing or set of things I could do that would make you more likely to in the future?

If you used to but don't any more...

1) Is there a particular reason you stopped? Art quality? Variety? Is it a matter of, "I've got a piece by The Gneech already, time to get something from somebody new..."?

2) What could I do to interest you in new pieces at future shows?

Any and all input welcome and desired! Thanks, everyone. :)

If I recall correctly, I commissioned you at AC 2006 to do a badge-sized picture of Mopsy in a mini-sketchbook that I sent to level_head, and you delivered exactly what I wanted, at a reasonable price. :)

Since you're asking and saying that you have a thick skin -- I like your writing much better than your art. This as much a matter of taste as quality, I think: you have a solid, consistent style that's just not what I'm looking for. (I like very realistic fantasy, such as some of ursula_v's digital work, or elegant styles like haikujaguar, and less so cartoony/cute work.) I mostly only buy art to hang in my house, and I generally like prints just as well as originals, so I'm not big on commissioning work.

Oh, and I don't think I've been at the same con with you since 2006, so I guess it's a moot point. :D

1) Did you feel like you got what you asked for?

In some cases, I got something that was rather unexpected. In most cases, I was well pleased with the result. :-)

2) Did you feel like you got your money's worth?

Yes.

3) Did my prices seem fair?

I have to admit to a tad amount of sticker shock at AC, but I believe the pricing is consistent. I just need to get used to the higher prices from everyone.

4) Did the item exceed your expectations in any way?

Of those in recent memory, I was VERY happy with your pencil sketch of Spiritwolf on the rope ladder. I think I enjoyed it because there seemed to be a story that went along with it, and that appeals to the writer in me.

5) If there was something you weren't happy with about the item, did you tell me about it?

I did not, with one piece that I can think of. But I've kept coming back to you for more art, so it must not have been too bad. ;-)

Hope this helped!

Okay! Thanks for the info! :)

And re: the piece you weren't so happy with, let me know some time how I can fix it!

uhhhhhh boy!
Since ya asked :D

If you haven't..

Any number of these things (but no hard feelin's)..

- I didn't know if/when you did them
- Didn't know prices
- Didn't know what you'd think of character ideas
- Didn't know if it fit in with your style
- Or simply wasn't thinking of it at the time

My commish buying habits: most of the time I see commission openings online, and I will ask myself if I want one at the time.
Also, I don't get them all that often, maybe 3 to 5 a year.

Good Lux!

I have to think you will know how I will answer. :=3

Questions 1-4: Most definitely YES!

Question 5: A resounding NO!

Anything you do for me is a treat, John. And I'm willing to pay the price.

Which reminds me, this Friday I will cover the screw-up with Kick Start. Short on pay this past pay-day.

As someone who hasn't gotten a badge or sketch from you before, I think my first response upon reading this was: "The Gneech does badges and sketches?" I think that means it's likely that you don't go to the couple cons I do, or that I've missed you in the past.

You need a bigger sign, if I have been at the same con as you hehehe

I've been to MFF and MFM, but it was a while ago, now. I'm reliably at AC and FC, and the rest are considerably more random.

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) Well, I wasn't at AC this year, but your prices in previous years have always seemed so be pretty much in the normal range of what other artists ask.

4) Mmm, Well the sketch has some neat little extra details, and actually, the badge holder I got from you is the best quality one I've received from any artist, so yes :P

I know your work pretty well by now, so nothing has particularity stood out as an "OH WOW!!!111eleventyone" but there are lots of nice little extras or touches that add that extra "oh nice!" element.

5) Well, I was and am happy with it, though there is a little discrepancy on my characters markings on the badge I got. But re-reading the description I gave you it was my poor description not your mistake :P

As for your later questions, The main reason I don't buy as much from you as I used to is not because I don't want to buy your stuff, but because I already own most of what you have for sale.

I tend to buy prints and books more than sketches, because I find it very difficult with my shyness and stuff to talk to artists to ask and to get across what I want, Sometimes I find it hard to talk to them to just buy a print or two >_> (you were my first ever sketch commission, and much easier to talk to because I'd already met you and talked to you before) and with badges, I have more than I can reasonably wear at a single convention, even in rotation, so I only get new badges from artists I don't already have one from.

Um... it's been three years since I purchased a badge from you at AC 2008. I hardly remember the conditions, but I am very proud of that particular badge. (I don't know where my badges all are right now - still in a box since I moved rooms, but usually that one has a place of honor in the display.)

The one you sent me last year was purchased by someone else, so I am hardly the one to describe the transaction, and the fact that I got it at all was a delight. :)

I haven't gotten any art from you, but that's mostly because the times I run into you you're not doing art. Someday, maybe.
