The First Day of the Rest of My Life, Or Whatever...

Well, I had my first shift at Starbucks. Unfortunately, the store still wasn't open, thanks to our never-punctual Fairfax County Fire Marshal (Borders had the same problem when I worked there), but that was okay, because it made for a nice, slow day that I could spend studying the menu, getting acclimated to where things were, and so forth. I also made myself a "white chocolate mocha," mixed up mocha syrup (oh, the awful things I'd love to do with that), and walked home with a whole, unopened, full-size iced lemon pound cake and several chocolate croissants.

Mmmmm ... fatteriffic!

I'm glad I have to walk to this job, or my weight would be in big, big trouble!

On the whole, I enjoyed it, but it was easy to enjoy when there weren't any customers around. We'll have to see what it's like when we're pounding out lattes at a mile a minute. My only real complaint is the pay, which is comparable with similar jobs, but is not sustainable with my current living arrangements.

My estimated net salary will cover 40% of the rent, with no money whatsoever left for food, clothing, heat, electricity, phone, etc. Ouch. Time to do some major lifestyle restructuring.
