That Idea That Didn't Surface...

The phantom idea I was muttering about here that kept floating around just under my consciousness, finally came into focus a little, yesterday. It's a character, still under construction, but I now at least have the basic hook for him. Better still, his hook provides instant story material.

An important detail that's lurking in the gray mass of precreation still eludes me; once I have that detail, tho, I think writing will start, whether I want it to or not. This character is afflicted, you see, but I can't quite put my finger on by what. It's something of a magical nature, it's something that is corruptive and dangerous, and it's something he wants very much to get rid of. I know that he's not a werewolf or a vampire, but it is something that he has been "infected" with, something that bestows a certain amount of dire power on him should he choose to wield it, but with a heavy cost.

But, as I say, I'm not sure just what it is. And until I find out, I suspect it's going to be nagging at me. My muse is a horrible tease.
