Oh-Dark-Thirty

Life continues unabated. Went to bed around 1:30 last night, after drawing today's SJ and reading a couple more chapters of this new C.J. Cherryh book I picked up, The Paladin. It's okay; I find the motivations a shade weak -- the people in the book seem to do the things they do because the plot requires it, rather than because they actually would. But that's based on the first seven chapters, so who knows, things may turn out better later on. I mostly bought the book because I liked the cover, and because I know Cherryh is a good, solid writer. Although nothing else she's written quite effects me the way the Chanur series did, everything of hers I've read has been at least dependably readable. :) (Which, given my finicky nature, is quite a feat.)

Going to bed that late wouldn't have been so bad, except I had to get up at 4:00 a.m. to get in to Starbucks by 5:00. The good news is, I got thanks from the manager for having worked 12 hours yesterday, after three people just plain didn't come in. The bad news is, that and $3.54 will buy me a mint mocha. Fortunately, I only had a six-hour day, so I could come home and crash.

I'm trying to decide what to do with the rest of my evening, now. I have some more want-ads to send my resume off to, but that will only take a few minutes. Once that's done, I think I'll do some preliminary writing on the story I mentioned the other day, and draw SJ in the morning. NN is sliding again, alas, but I can't really help that. As much as I wish it was going where I wanted it to, it wants to be a very different strip than the one I want to draw, and I don't have the energy to fight with it right now.

Hmm ... 8:13 already. Time flies when you aren't at work. Catcha later! -TG

"Just a Gigolo" by Louis Prima

I'm just a gigolo
everywhere I go
people know the part
I'm playing

Paid for every dance
selling each romance
Oh, what they're saying

But then there'll come a day
when youth will pass away
What will they say about me?
When the end comes I know,
they'll say "Just a gigolo."
Life goes on without me

I'm just a gigolo, everywhere I go
people know the part I'm playing
pay for every dance
selling you romance
oh, what their saying

And there will come a day
And youth will pass away
What will they say about me?
When the end comes I know,
It was just a gigolo
Life goes on without me

'cause I ain't got nobody
oh and there's nobody cares for me
there's nobody cares for me

I'm so sad and lonely
sad and lonely sad and lonely
Won't some sweet mamma
come and take a chance with me
'cause I aint so bad

And I'll sing out, sweet love songs
All of the time
She will only be, only be
Bip bozadee bodzee bop le bop

I ain't got nobody
oh and there's nobody cares for me
there's nobody cares for me

Hummala bebhuhla zeebuhla boobuhla
hummala bebhuhla zeebuhla bop

I ain't got nobody, nobody,
nobody cares for me
Nobody, theres nobody cares for me
I'm so sad and lonely,
oh lonely, oh lonely, lonely lonely

Won't some sweet mama come and rescue me
'cause I aint so bad

And I'll sing out
sweet love songs
all of the time
she will only be, only, only, only only be
baby, sugar darling

I ain't got nobody baby
And there's nobody, there's nobody
there's nobody there's nobody
there's no one, there's no one
nobody, nobody, nobody
nobody cares for me
