The NeverNever Solution?

With the combined help of my friends T'Chall and James McCoy, some heavy thinking on my part, plus the always-welcome input of LJ readers, I think I may have a solution to my NN problem, or at least the beginnings of one. Fortunately, it doesn't require any major overhauls of the strip, and is completely compatible with what has been done already. Thus, no "That didn't really happen!" sequences, that leave readers feeling so ripped off, and no trying to decide who lives and who dies, creatively speaking.

It also gets around another problem I've been worrying about for some time, which is, Why did Excalibur appear now? Having a satisfactory answer to that question (as opposed to all the unsatisfactory ones I'd come up with until now) makes a lot of things fall into place.

In fact, the only real problem it presents me is that I have to just finish off the current storyline, so I can clear the decks for action ... and the current storyline is still one that I wish would just sorta go away. I mean yeah, it's got some cool elements, and I have a basic idea worked out for where it will go, but I'm not really interested in it.

Still, maybe I can segue it into the new direction I want to go. Without wanting to give away too many spoilers, this storyline ends with Arthur finally claiming Excalibur, and one he does, the world will have made an important shift. However, this shift can be the catalyst that sets in motion the next big step.

The good news is, the Arcadians will no longer be at war with humanity. :) The bad news is, they're going to have other worries. The story isn't going to get any less epic; in fact, it's likely to get moreso ... but it's going to get epic in a way that I have a lot more control over.

I'm going to have to sit down and start crankin' out some strips. Once I get a good backlog of drafted strips, then I can start drawing actual ones and see how it fits into my schedule with SJ. That will determine what the new NN schedule will be, whether it's a few times a week, or a few times a month. Either one will be an improvement over "PAUSE."

I do so love being excited about my work again! =)
