Well, the "Recovery Disk" that came with my HP Pavilion was garbage -- big surprise there -- so I went to Best Buy and got a copy of Windows XP. After a bit of fighting with it to convince it that yes, I did have a hard drive, it is now installed and seems to be running happily ... if a bit on the pokey side.
The true test will come when I fire up Photoshop ... later.
But for now, I exist! Yay. :)
Well, so far, everything works but the scanner. :) I haven't done any heavy-duty stuff in Photoshop, which has been the resource hog in the past, so I still can't say if the upgrade has been a success ... but it at least hasn't been a horrible crashing failure, either.
WinXP seems pretty nice, although the whole Fisher Price thing is annoying. I wonder if there's anywhere in the settings I can go back to the old Windows look. It wasn't great, but it wasn't vaguely insulting, either.
Still only have half of my intended software installed, so I know what I'll be doing a lot of this week!
Anyway, it's bedtime now. G'nite!
