Dooby Dooby Down Dooby Doo Down Down...

Edit: Apparently, the internet connection is down at work, so I won't be reachable much today.

Well, it turns out our connection was restored a lot faster than anticipated, and tap water has been deemed safe for popular consumption by the Powers Who Don't Want to Be Sued. So it's back to life as usual!

Catcha later, everybody!

The Problem With Space Opera...

To make technology behave the way it does in space opera, you have to make some amazing advances ... which isn't the problem. The problem is that the ramifications of those advances aren't ever thought through. Every advance in technology has unintended consequences, or as James Burke might put it, "Napoleon's shawl helped develop the computer."

So take a look at, say, artificial gravity (and its counterpart, repulsors). If you're going to have ships zooming around at super-high accelerations, you need to have something to counter the g-forces so the crew of said ship doesn't turn into jelly. And on the Enterprise, even when everything else was turned off, the crew still walked around on the floor instead of floating around engineering, which would have been a lot more convenient. And what's a "tractor beam," but an intensely-focused gravity projector?

I Have Been Asked...

To do a panel on "basic pencilling" at Further Confusion. So I guess I'd better go, huh? :)

I was originally asked to do inking but had to defer on that one. Inking is probably my weakest point, and the best advice I'd have been able to give was, "Do something totally different from what I do!"
