In reference to
this post, I did more thinking along the lines of "What if Michael were the
normal one of the story?" and that reminded me of elements of my old Richmond
Champions game that I really liked and enjoyed. I've been thinking about taking selected elements of that game, and using them as a launching point for stories about Michael, or someone very like him. ;)
In case you aren't familiar with
Champions, it's a tabletop roleplaying game about superheroes. It works best when recreating something like, say, "The X-Men," but with some tweaking can be made to work with just about anything. My Richmond
Champions game, in which I sometimes shared the GMing duties with Phil Brucato, had a slightly darker tone, with guest appearances by Batman, The Joker, and "the Hand" for instance. This was before the days of
Dark Champions, but had a similar flavor. The foes tended towards martial artists and eldritch horrors, rather than radioactive mutants and world-eating megadudes.
Now to use the elements of that game that I liked, obviously I've got to strip out the spandex and the copyright violations. Also, I've got to remove/alter the stuff that was purely Phil's creation. But this gives me (a) a direction, and (b) some creative energy. This may be the spark/missing link I needed to get moving again!
I'm jazzed. :)
