Yue grim

Anybody who knows me knows that I have two jobs. My real job is cartoonist/artist/writer, and my other job is whatever will give me a decent enough living while interfering the least possible amount with my real job. Currently, that job is web programmer for a gov't contractor.

The fact that the side business eats 40 hours/week that I'd rather be spending on the real job, is an unavoidable nuisance.

Anyway, lately the side business has been getting a little annoying; the boss is getting even more Rabbitey [1] than usual. Lots of pointless "overhead" jobs are being created and so all of us who do actual billable work are getting pressured not to have overhead expenses (because our work pays for the people who aren't bringing in income) -- which also means that there will probably be little or no bonus next year because it's all going to pay for the indirect people, that kind of thing. Also, interoffice politics are getting particularly bad -- certain people are being targeted as persona non grata and having their jobs turned into a living hell, so that they'll get disgusted and leave without actually having to be fired, and so forth. (The fact that they've been with the company for a decade and put up with tons o' crap for the good of the company, doesn't seem to matter.)

Lots of fodder for the Dover/Lagston storyline, but honestly I don't need fodder this badly. :P

This job is starting to not fulfill its primary requirement, which is that it not interfere with my real job. :P I'm going to have to figure out something to do about that.

On a Happier Note...

And to give a special birthday to everybody's favorite Cave Lion, here's SCUMBAG THE BIRTHDAY CLOWN!

Happy birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Whoop-de-doo! Whoop-de-doo!
Hope you don't resent it!
Open up your present!
Just for you!
Just for you!

*Scumbag disappears with a *POOF*, leaving behind a box with a big yellow-and-green polka dot ribbon ... trejaan opens the box and "FWEEEEEE!!!!" out comes a big pink elephant blowing a party streamer! The elephant crushes trejaan in a devastating birthday hug, then prances off in a most disturbing fashion, singing "Tiptoe Through the Tulips"...*

Huzzah and Hooray!

Joy and rapture!
Cheers and applause!
Shields and Yarnell!

Er, no, scratch that last bit.

Anyway, the reason for all this cheering is that today's deluge of meetings all day (ugh!) has been modified; the afternoon meeting got postponed until tomorrow! Yay!

Work is boring ... but it's better than meetings!

An inter-city disco!
The wheels of steel are turning!
And traffic lights are burning!
So if you like to party

I'm getting exhausted from all this uncontrollable DANCING!!!

Whattya Want To Do Tonight, Pinky?

A little nod to neverwench's Random Quote Time post, there. ;)

Anyway! Tonight I went to Kung Fu, after sorta slinking around and hiding from it for a week. When I went back on 3/12, the class knocked me down, pummelled me about the head and neck, and stole my wallet -- figuratively speaking. So as you might guess, I wasn't exactly keen to go back. But I'm not going to give up on it, so that meant that I pretty much had to go tonight.

Fortunately, I survived. In fact, for the most part, I did pretty well by my own scale of achievement. By the end of it I had sweat pouring down my face and into my eyes -- not ordinary sweat either, oh no -- that "metallic-tang deep-fat-burning sweat that smells like somebody about to pass out" sweat ... whoof. *collapses at the memory* Worn out as I was, I did notice (and appreciate!) that the daily pushups and crunches I've been doing every morning really did make a difference. I lasted longer, my form was better, and I had more endurance when various muscle groups started crying "No more, please no more!"

Then, after a quick dinner, I finally FINISHED a commish that's been lurking around my to-do list since October or so. I can't announce it to the world yet (it's a surprise for somebody), but I'm pleased with it, not only because of how the pic came out, but also because there's a certain amount of celebrity involved, and cody_frost will tell you what an awful name-dropper I am. ;) I'll show it off when I can. :)

Meanwhile, it's way too late for me to still be up, so I'm heading off to bed. G'nite, all, and have a better tomorrow than you were expecting!
