Kero asleep

Life Is but an Australian Adventure Game...

More with the weird dreaming ... this time I had two related dreams separated by a brief period of waking up in the middle of the night.

And now, a short intermission.

Thank you, please return to your seat.

Interesting tidbit: I woke up remembering a plot hole that always bothered me about Rescuers Down Under ... they never went back to rescue the animals in McLeach's hideout! Did they starve to death with nobody to keep feeding them?

[1] Note: "Cupabara" is not a real creature, although a search on Google reveals it to be a Russian band. I think my dream-brain, casting around for an exotic Australian bird tried to come up with "kookaburra," which is an Australian bird but is not at all exotic (it's sort of a brown crow), and mixed that with "capybara," which is a large South American rodent).

Pardon Me While I Chuckle Quietly to Myself ;)

People who think they know everything ... are very annoying to those of us who actually do!

I received an e-mail today taking me to task for the Van Helsing drawing I did, which ran as this past Saturday's Grab Bag.

He apparently loves Suburban Jungle and has no objection to my art style or anything, he's all annoyed because in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Van Helsing was a doctor/laywer/old man who knew how to dispel vampires, not a wire-fu monster-slaying machine, and he exhorted me to "Read the book!" because it was obvious to him that I had not done so. (Surely if I had, I would have drawn Van Helsing completely differently!)

Wow, where to begin? =D

I did my best to assure him that not only had I read it, but that I've read it more than once ... I wish now I'd thought to add, "It's just a movie, you should really just relax." I also remembered all the times I've done similar bonehead things, myself, and tried to temper my response accordingly. ;) My guess is, the dude is probably high school or early college, very proud of being smart, and still working on that whole "social graces" thing...

Strip Stake

Hmm ... wesha's second cameo has barely made a blip in e-mail, and no response at all on the message board. That surprised me ... it's double-sized! It's a cameo! It's Dover! But it received chirping crickets.

Strange world. :) Ah well.

Anyway, I have been endeavoring to continue upping the art ante for the strip, via the use of backgrounds, more dramatic panel composition, etc., and I'm pretty pleased with tonight's session (assuming the inking doesn't ruin it). Specifically, next Monday has a nice exterior perspective shot (although I see a flaw that I'm going to have to fix before inking, damn my eyes). One of the things that impressed me early on about Kevin and Kell was his use of perspective to add visual interest, and so I figure I could do worse than take a cue from Holbrook-sensei. ;)

Speaking of which, it's about time to get back to it. CYA!
