Can't Sleep, Death's Hand Will Eat Me

Well, I'm up way too late and I didn't get any drawing done today, 'cause I finished Jade Empire instead.

I liked it.

I really, really liked it.

Jade Empire II has now reached the status of "Killer App" for XBox 360.

Damn you, Bioware.

Today's Forgotten English

Newly invented.
--Noah Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language, 1828

300th Birthday of Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
American Renaissance man. He is best remembered for his contribution to American independence and for his wise, often humorously ironic, sayings, such as, "All would live long, but none would be old." An inveterate inventor, he devised bifocal glasses, the odometer, and swim fins, and he helped introduce to America the catheter tube, a windsurfing apparatus, the public library, and the notion of matching gifts in charity fund-raising. He also charted the paths of storms over North America and discovered the course of the Gulf Stream. As a publisher, he printed America's first political cartoon and some of its earliest editorials. At age twenty-two, he composed this cheerful epitaph for himself, which he revised a number of times: "The body of B. Franklin, Printer (like the cover of an old book, its contents torn out and stript of its lettering and gilding) lies here, food for worms. But the work shall not be lost; for it will (as he believ'd) appear once more in a new and more elegant edition revised and corrected by the Author."

Tuesday Workout Report (Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo Edition)

Tonight's workout lasted two Heathcliffs worth. Collapse )

I was only scheduled to do two sets on the Military Press, but I got so in the habit of doing three with the previous workout that I just did the extra set by habit. Not that it's a bad thing, I suppose. ^.^'

Including yesterday's Yourself! Fitness workout, I have officially had my three for the week, so any workout I can finagle at FC is gravy. I've got a tentative appointment to hook up with a few other folks for a trip to the gym while we're there, which'll be a new experience for me. I'm not really used to working out with company, Kung Fu classes notwithstanding. I hope I don't come off as too much of a bozo. :P

Anyway, gotta finish strips for the week so back to the art mines! Catcha later.

Jeeves Very Good

Is Bismawk a Hewwing?

laurie_robey is watching some screwball comedy in the other room, starring Jean Arthur ... and Marlena Dietrich. Every time I hear that sultry, nasal, Elmer Fudd voice of hers, it makes me want to watch Witness For the Prosecution.

Marlena was very, very good in Witness For the Prosecution.

What a movie that was. But how could it be anything but? Story by Agatha Christie; starring Charles Laughton, Elsa Lanchester, Tyrone Power, Una O'Connor -- and of course Marlena in the title role -- it would have taken a lot of effort to make it anything but great.

And great it was.

And I want to watch it now.
