D&D

Gaming last night ran a bit long, but was fun. Poor Maynard spent most of his time being useless, although he did take out a shadow with an attack of opportunity.

Being a rogue in an undead-heavy game is always a challenge, as your most useful combat ability (sneak attack) is completely thwarted. I've basically decided, for the most part, to play Maynard for comedy rather than pure effectiveness ... for instance last night when confronted by the shadows, Maynard shifted into fox form and tumbled into laurie_robey's mighty cleric's backpack, where he spent the rest of the combat hiding.

The problem with that is, when the time comes for him to be effective, my die rolls tank. :P Maynard spent the big fight of the evening tied up (after having been possessed by a cursed item) because camstone got a lucky roll on his Use Rope check. The sad part was, they didn't miss him. -.- The one time we fight humanoid opponents, and I didn't get any sneak attack! *cries*

Of course, I did willingly let him "get caught" when I could have easily prevented that. But I didn't want him wading into that fight by himself! Maynard only has 21 hit points and an AC of 17 ... he doesn't wade into battle, he plinks from the shadows!

I am pleased with how well his D&D writeup has meshed with the character as he appeared in my book. There are a few minor mechanical differences, but with careful playing they haven't been discernible.

I do regret not playing Gazeddor, tho. Next one-shot game, he's in. But he wouldn't have fit in this game anyway -- too much silliness. Gazeddor works better and would be a lot more fun in a more serious environment.

Today's viewing material was Victor Borge's 80th Birthday Gala at Wolf Trap. What a genius he was. ^.^ laurie_robey and I were lucky enough to catch one of his performances at Wolf Trap a couple of years after that, and it was a great night. He's one of those people who made the world a better place for having been in it.

Anyway, and then there was grunting...Collapse )

I did the Narrow Pulldowns at 50 lbs by mistake, which was lower than I was scheduled to do. So I decided to do another set at 60 lbs ... which turns out was higher than I was supposed to do. D'Oh! On the other hand, since I could do both with no apparent ill effects, maybe I should be doing a higher weight on that one anyway.

Off to dinner! When I get back, I'm going to finish the Tiffany & Leonard prehistory pic I sketched the week before last, fill out the paperwork, and send 'em off to xydexx, which will allow me to strike "AC Conbook" from the Too Much To Do List. Woohoo!
