Aaaah :)

As I sit here, with Buddha contentedly stretched across my lap and laurie_robey -- well, she was puttering around upstairs, but now she's standing over my shoulder petting Buddha -- I find myself tired and yet quite content.

Today we went over to visit camstone and mooivos in the hospital and got to meet their new baby, Alexis; from there we drove in to town and saw the Edward Hopper Exhibit at the National Gallery, which entailed a bit of walking in the rain and a bit of standing in line for a $30 lunch, but was still worth it. Paintings are one of those things that can't really be appreciated without getting up close and personal. For instance, Hopper's most famous work, "Nighthawks," is a very green painting, with a lot of interplay between different light sources ... almost none of which is visible on a tiny little print.

What always strikes me about seeing art "live" (so to speak) is how very simple it can be. If my interest lay in that direction, I am pretty confident I could do "fine art" (although I'd probably need some practice to brush up on my perspective work etc.). I don't make that assertion in a sneering "Oh even -I- could do that!" way, just in an assessment of my particular realm of talents compared with the product at hand. The same way I'm not a bad photographer when I put my mind to it, if you see what I mean.

Digression: I am unfortunately feeling my out-of-shapeness quite a bit lately. I don't seem to have any endurance for heavy lifting or long-term walking; I'm going to have to start up some kind of classes again or something, and I'm very much not looking forward to that.

In other news, over at my sister's house yesterday, I played "Guitar Hero" for the first time. It was fun; I did particularly well (or I should say, sucked least) on "I Wanna Be Sedated," but I figure that's just because The Ramones Make Everything Better.

Back to work tomorrow, alas. I miss the old days of having off the week between Christmas and New Year's Day!

Well, that's enough rambling for now. Talk to you later, all! Good night, and have an awesome tomorrow!
