AC 2009 Post-Mortem Post

My usual post-con analysis, what worked, what didn't, lessons learned for the future...

  • Lean and mean worked well. I was surprised at how strong sales were with just the books, the buttons, and one or two shirts. Of course, Kerry's scarves were flying like hotcakes — not something I would have predicted in Pittsburgh in July, but welcome nonetheless. The blank sketchbooks were a big hit, I definitely need to re-stock on those. I think the lowered prices also helped translate into more sales this time around. Not something we can do every time, but certainly worth keeping an eye on.

  • The Courtyard continues to serve admirably — but don't believe them if they tell you they're bringing a luggage cart up to your room. Go down and grab it yourself.

  • I remembered the pencil sharpener this time, but forgot an eraser. Go fig. Fortunately, indigoangelcat had some on hand.

  • Also forgot to pre-do the price list, but in this case the hand-written one went with the "recession sale" motif.


On the whole, I can't really think of anything that we could have done better this time around. In point of fact, particularly given some of the things other dealers have said, I think we did extremely well. And everybody seemed happy with what they got and pleased to see us again, so I'd call AC 2009 a big success. :)
