Just got back from Madagascar 3. Fun, a wee bit lackluster but enjoyable bubble gum of a movie. Granted, the movies have always been silly cartoon animals doing silly cartoon things, but by the end they pretty said, "Y'know what? Screw reality!" and had critters flying around on glowy sparkles and doing all sorts of bizarre strangeness that reminded me more of a CGI "Heffalumps and Woozles" sequence than anything resembling a coherent narrative. Not that that's a bad thing per se, but the point is, it was more or less a pretty light show and not much else.
Music was sorta weaksauce, the visuals were pretty, the script okay but unspectacular. It had some funny one-liners and neatly resolved the larger meta-arc of "getting the Zoosters back to the zoo," so it's worth seeing if you've enjoyed the series. But... yeah. They're done. Time to move on.
Kind of a bummer, just 'cause I always love movies with a lion hero. ;) But what can ya do?
