Workout Report

Life-fixing agenda item: morning workout. Status: First stage complete. Gym membership reinstated, morning workout, uh, worked out. Time for a Workout Report! You remember these, don't you? I used to do these all the time. ¬.¬

Lower Back: 2 sets 10 reps @ 50 lbs (easy/medium -- this will go up)
Arm Extensions: 2 set 10 reps @ 70 lbs (easy/medium -- this will probably also go up)
Upper Back: 2 set 10 reps @ 60 lbs (easy/medium -- this will probably go up)
Vertical Traction: 2 sets 10 reps @ 90 lbs (medium -- hold here for now)
Shoulder Press: 2 sets 10 reps @ 35 lbs (medium/tough -- hold here for now)
Chest Press: 2 sets 10 reps @ 50 lbs (medium/tough -- hold here for now)
Cable Cross: 2 sets 10 reps @ 40 lbs (tough -- although lack of nourishment was a problem here)
Squat Lift: 2 sets 10 reps @ 40 lbs (tough -- it's not the weight on this one that hurts, it's the bending!)
Arm Curls: 2 sets 10 reps @ 30 lbs (medium/hard -- the second set of these always kills me)
Leg Press: 2 sets 10 reps @ 140 lbs (easy/tough -- hold here for now)
Weight: 329 lbs

Net result: I had definitely slipped in certain areas, but I knew that would be the case. I was actually pleased at how much strength I had retained, given my age and general lack of activity lately.

Today's lesson learned: I must eat something before my workout. About 2/3 of the way through, I suddenly became weak and woozy and needed to sit down until I recovered. I'll have to find some sort of power bar or such that I can eat on the way without gagging.

And now... shower and work. But hey, at least the workout is done!

Fitocracy is designed for workout tracking/blogging, so you might take a look at it. :D It's a bit annoying the first time you input your workout, but once you have a routine in, pretty good. I'm Rowyn over there too.

You should join fitocracy.com . It's a website that tracks your workouts with kind of a geek/nerd twist. As you workout you level up, and there are quests, achievements, etc. I'm on there as Trianna if you want to check it out. The only bad thing is if you're counting calories too the website doesn't do that.

I know I shouldn't be saying this as a personal trainer, but I have been way slacking myself. I think that I have been letting stress be an excuse to not work out hard. I think I will stop that, like now.

Stress is a big morale-smasher, yes. But then not doing the workout just makes you more stressed. Vicious cycle!

Yes, I agree that it is a vicious cycle. For me, it was even worse, because the manager was there. We've had a lot of managers at this job, but none of the other ones gave me the "up,up,up" hand signal you'd give a dog who was on the wrong couch. Says I am making him look bad by being so low-key.

I recommend the Oh Yeah! brand of meal bars and shakes. (Some grocery stores carry them, but they're usually easier to find at GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe; if nothing else, they'll have a better selection of the available flavors.) For the most part, they've done a pretty good job of getting the flavors to mesh decently, or at least palatably, with the inevitable "protein bar" and "non-sugar sweetener" tastes. :) They're also very low in sugar, which is a big deal if you're watching that kind of thing; a lot of those "power bars" are astonishingly high in carbohydrates.

My personal favorites are the banana and chocolate shakes. The strawberry is kind of funky (but then, most artificially-flavored strawberry stuff is), and the "cookies & cream" flavor has this strange tendancy for the vegetable gum to settle to the bottom in one thick lump which resists breaking up no matter how hard you shake the bottle. Which is harmless, but it does mean that by the time you're drinking the last part of the bottle, you're basically getting a mouthful of relatively tasteless jell-o. :/

Of the bars, the "Almond Fudge Brownie" is my favorite, although the "Peanut Butter & Caramel" is a close second. The "Vanilla & Caramel" would probably be good if you like white chocolate (which I don't, personally). "Peanut Butter & Strawberry" is, again, kind of funky-tasting. :)

What's your intake like? Do you count calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, etc?

There's certainly been more sugar in my diet than I should be taking, but I've been fixing that over the past week. :)
