Webcomics.com? Y/N

Considering joining Webcomics.com. Anyone got input on the matter? (Assuming that you're not busy at SDCC.)

Thanks!

You are going to start a new comic?

It's not bad. We're members, but we don't really read it anymore. However, the price of admission is made back a few times over from the discounts they offer with various merchants.

We use the webcomics.com discount for the banners and make back the fee in one order plus some.

Hmm. How about community-wise, has it helped you make any friends/contacts etc.?

Eh, couldn't really get into the community.

Forums never were really my cuppa, and a lot of the time (at least with the early stuff) it was a rehash of the same old. I could say that like most forums it got clique-y, but really, I have this hate-hate relationship with forums and forum communities that just makes me not mesh well with them

They've been doing more community based stuff lately, critiques and expert guest posts, and the like, but I haven't really read it for over six months now.

Fair enough. :) My own experiences w/ attempting to do comics + community have had mixed results at best. On the old, old "Hotseat" mailing list, I made a lot of good friends, whereas at Keenspot I always felt like a big ol' outsider.

Yeah, to be honest, we've found our best "communities" through the cons. We go out, have dinner with friends and fellow creators (This year's run to Damons (mmmm barbeque) has become slightly infamous, and ended up naming our new car the "Pregnant Yak"), and we talk shop, share horror stories, and otherwise have a lot of fun.

The we can all go our separate ways till the next show. The community grows slowly, but it grows.

I'm envious. :) My contact with colleagues seems to be contracting rather than expanding (which is one of the things I'm looking to change).

Not in the immediate future, but I imagine I will sometime... :)
