Kerry O'Day (MammaLlamaDevil)

My close friend and former business partner Kerry O'Day, known to many as MammaLlamaDevil or MLD, has been fighting cancer for the past several months. Earlier today I received an e-mail from her mother informing me that Kerry's cancer had spread throughout her body, and that she had been put onto heavy medication to ease her pain but that they were basically waiting.

Just now, while calling all of Kerry's close friends I had contact for to tell them of this, I received a phone call from our mutual friend Susan Rankin-Pollard that Kerry passed away peacefully in the intervening time.

I have tried to reach her closest friends that I had contact information for. I apologize to anyone who has to find out by reading this post.

I will post more information on condolences for the family, services, etc. as I get it. Right now all of us who loved Kerry (and there are many, many of us) are simply dealing with the blow.

Warm thoughts for her family are appreciated. Thank you.

-The Gneech

Rose and I hadn't met Kerry often, only a few times behind a table in the Further Confusion Dealer's Room, but she was never anything less than a joy to talk to and be around. I've heard you mention her since I first started reading Suburban Jungle, I know this loss must be immense for you. Our thoughts are with you and the circle who knew her, and we join you in missing her.

Wow... she'll be sorely missed.

My condolences to you and Kerry's family, Gneech.
I'm sorry for the loss.

No words. Ryan and I are completely crushed. Kerry was serene, generous, and loving; the world is going to be that much colder without her.

You guys had a special place in her heart, I know, as did Sue.

Oh, heavens. I've only met her twice at Further Confusion, but she's been a professional every time.

The world is a lonelier place without her.

I hate to say this, because it risks sounding horribly callous, but at least she's out of the pain and difficulty of it. It's thin comfort, but it is comfort of a sort. My, and my family's, best wishes to her friends and loved ones.

I literally went "YIPE!" out loud when I saw this post... the world has lost one of the greats...

Warm thoughts sent, Gneech...

She will be missed...
Mamma Llama Devil was one of the first to welcome me and Fuzzwolf to the strange fellowship of the Dealer's Den when we started taking over Furplanet. We always loved talkign to her, and every time we drive by a In-and-Out we think of her.

She will be deeply missed.

I'd left a few messages for her this last week, and hadn't heard back.... I think it's been two weeks since we last exchanged notes....

.................... this is so saddening .... ;_; .... she had so much vitality, and it never seems fair to lose someone with so much potential still so promising......

The words of that song come to mind right now....

"Everybody chokes .. to see someone cut down in their prime..."

Those who knew you are choking back the tears right now................ -_-

The internet just became a quieter and more boring place :(

Most people have a sense of where "Above and beyond the call of duty" is, in any attempt to help another person.

Kerry started there, and threw everything she had at going further.

Exactly. This sums her up nicely in a nutshell.

I cannot believe it. I've read it and been told it (by a close friend) and I STILL can't believe it. Kerry was the one person I know who was more full of life than anyone else in the world. She knitted me a Doctor Who scarf.. she single-handedly rescued the remaining copies of my aborted Plan Nine publishing effort... there was nothing it seemed could slow her down, she was full of life. So full of life.

I still can't believe it. Maybe at some point it'll sink in, but..

Yeah, it is really hard to believe that there was anything Kerry couldn't do if she set her mind to it. She helped so many people in so many ways.

Thanks for your call earlier today, I'm sorry I missed it, I'm just now getting caught up.

I am very very grateful for you posting this. I will speak with you a bit later on the phone when I can, this is pretty hard and then some.

I don't... John, you and Kerry kinda pulled me up from a dark place when I honestly was quite disillusioned with the Fandom, the two of you helped me reshape my thoughts and perspective on the fandom, and on life. Every time I saw Kerry she had a smile on her face, even if she was stressed at the dealer's table.

She's going to be missed a lot. If you need to talk, feel free to get a hold of me. Thank you for posting this.

I know that would mean a lot to her. She was all about making people's lives better!

Lousy news. Kerry was a good person.

I'll miss her.
