  • Mon, 13:06: RT @neilcic: VOTING TIP: Set a reminder on your phone for 2018 called "Give a shit about the midterms"
  • Mon, 13:07: Seriously, re: midterms? a) Fewer people vote, so your vote carries more weight, and b) Only politically active vote, meaning more loons.
  • Mon, 13:08: Assuming you are not a loon, PLEASE vote in midterms. Low turnout at midterms is one reason our gov’t is so broken right now.
  • Mon, 13:11: I grew up near D.C., so politics is in the air I breathe. So I’ve always voted in mid-terms. I can see the effects…
  • Mon, 13:13: Despite what people outside the beltway often think, the system really DOES mostly work the way it’s designed to. But it's a sloppy process.
  • Mon, 13:15: Well yes. Any system is only as good as the people working within it.
  • Mon, 13:18: There ARE groups with outsized influence (Koch bros., entire military industrial complex, etc.)… BUT! They are just another lobby.
  • Mon, 13:19: By that I mean, they are louder in what is often a shouting contest. But they don’t “secretly rule the world” or any such stuff.
  • Mon, 13:20: I have seen the workings of the state, and I can tell you: humans are too incompetent to pull off conspiracies. XD
  • Mon, 13:21: In any group of people bigger than four (and possibly three) -somebody- will screw it up. Politics involves literally millions.
  • Mon, 13:23: And there’s always people searching for shenanigans. Corruption can happen, but it’s not really sustainable on a massive scale.
  • Mon, 13:23: Do you think politicos would mess with “birth certificates” or other phoney-baloney stuff if there was something substantive to go after?
  • Mon, 13:25: Factions, the scrabbling of crabs pulling each other down is ugly and wasteful business, but it’s also what keeps the gov’t honest…ish.
  • Mon, 13:26: This is also why I almost always advocate a split ticket. My fave mix is Dem house/senate Rep pres in normal circumstances.
  • Mon, 13:28: Right now, we are not in normal circumstances. A virulent strain has captured the right, and has way too much power at the moment.
  • Mon, 13:28: The country has been relentlessly marching right, right, right since the ‘90s. This is one reason I was such a big Bernie fan.
  • Mon, 13:29: I want the U.S. to move back to the center.
  • Mon, 13:29: And that’s the thing, even tho my own personal politics are decidedly left of center, I don’t want an all-leftie government.
  • Mon, 13:30: Because when you get echo chambers, bad things happen.
  • Mon, 13:32: Heh, I guess I’ve gone way off the topic here. So, to sum up: vote in mid-terms. Add your voice so you don’t get out-shouted by assholes.
  • Mon, 13:37: Conspiracies can be comforting. “The devil runs the show” may be less scary than “we’re all flailing around and the…
  • Mon, 13:48: RT @Slypenslyde: I do not like Trump but that doesn't really make the "small hands" jokes OK.
  • Mon, 14:12: Now cheer up, Twitter, it’ll be okay. Here, have a cheeger butt. You know butts always make you feel better.…
  • Mon, 14:16: Found a brush to use for Charity’s spots. Faster and hopefully more-natural looking than my old “stipple, stipple, freakin’ stipple” method.
  • Mon, 14:19: Pretty much. In government, checks and balances make humanity’s tendency to pursue short-term interest a feature, n…
  • Mon, 14:22: If a cheeger butt isn’t enough to cheer you up, have Sweetie Belle singing “Here Comes the Sun.” #MLPFIM
  • Mon, 14:29: Heh. A whole playlist of ponyfied Beatles. <3
