People who think they know everything ... are very annoying to those of us who actually do!--bumper sticker, c. 1985
I received an e-mail today taking me to task for the Van Helsing drawing I did, which ran as this past Saturday's Grab Bag.
He apparently loves Suburban Jungle and has no objection to my art style or anything, he's all annoyed because in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Van Helsing was a doctor/laywer/old man who knew how to dispel vampires, not a wire-fu monster-slaying machine, and he exhorted me to "Read the book!" because it was obvious to him that I had not done so. (Surely if I had, I would have drawn Van Helsing completely differently!)
Wow, where to begin? =D
I did my best to assure him that not only had I read it, but that I've read it more than once ... I wish now I'd thought to add, "It's just a movie, you should really just relax." I also remembered all the times I've done similar bonehead things, myself, and tried to temper my response accordingly. ;) My guess is, the dude is probably high school or early college, very proud of being smart, and still working on that whole "social graces" thing...
