- SJ Site Redesign
I've actually wanted to do this for some time now. The design I've got right now is basically the same one I've been using since 1999, and it's a bit clunky. Unfortunately, I don't have any immediate ideas for another design to use. I was very pleased with how the NN site redesign came out, and I was thinking maybe a pawprint motif instead of the ivy. Not sure, tho.
- SJ Site Tip Jar?
I have been told by some that it's fine, and in fact appropriate. Webcartoonists are something like street performers on the information superhighway, so to speak. With the new job I've got enough money to meet expenses, but a tip jar would make such things as cons a bit more affordable. I still feel a little queasy about it, tho ... after all, isn't the merchandise, what little there is, supposed to take care of such things?
- Speaking of Merchandise...
I haven't been paid by Plan 9, Keenspot, or anybody else for the various arrangements I've got lately. I wish I had an accountant I could sick on them. In the case of Keenspot, revenues are dropping there all the time, and I'm not really expecting to get anything from them any time soon. But Plan 9 should be sending me royalties!
- Speaking of Tip Jars...
John Nunnemacher was telling me about the AC "artist alley" policies. Uncle Kage is a stickler for paperwork, tax forms, and so forth, and would be most unappreciative if I were to just do my sketchies for a little under-the-table lunch money like I did at FC. But the tiny amount of money I'm going to make doesn't warrant going through all the paperwork necessary to pay taxes on it, which is one of the major reasons I gave up my dealer table. I can try to get space in the artist alley on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the paperwork is run through the con, or I can just give the whole sketching-for-money idea a miss all together. Bah. I might be able to do some sort of consignment arrangement with Plan 9, perhaps.
- Speaking of Consignments
I still owe BJ Buttons an appearance in SJ in exchange for buttons. He already did a bunch of "Proud to be Furry" buttons for me, and actually it might be good to get him to do some more for me for AC, now that I think about it. If I was going to do merchandising in a big way, they would be one of my "stock" items.
I wish there was more real money to be made with SJ; I also wish I was a better businessman. But in the words of Nathan Arizona, "Yeah, and if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass a-hoppin'!"
Ah well. Time to finish off some commissions that have been around since January...
