People who know me probably know by now about my love/hate relationship with sleep ... with emphasis on the hate. I hate going to bed; it's a bloody nuisance. On the other hand, I hate being groggy all the time from not getting enough sleep. I recently heard about a drug being tested in Europe that supposedly allows you to stay awake for 40 hours without side-effects. I don't believe a word of it. I can't stay awake for five hours without side-effects.
On the other hand, I also hate getting up in the morning -- or at least getting up before I'm ready, which means any time before 8:00, and preferably not before 9:00. I can stay up until the ungodly wee hours of the morning with no problem -- as long as I can sleep until 9:00 the next day. On the other hand, if I go to bed at 10:00 p.m. and get up before 8:00 the next day, I feel like I've been hit by a truck.
The ironic little cherry on top of this irritation cake is that I'm extra cranky about the whole subject because, you guessed it, I need to get some more sleep! Curse you sandman, and all you stand for!
Hopefully, a few nights of rest and I'll be back to the bouncy, hyper guy I was last week -- y'know, who had tons of ideas, was drawing constantly, and making all sorts of preparations for upcoming cons? I like that guy a lot better than the grumpy ogre I become after staying up to late to play computer games for a week.
I blame graveyardgreg. He's the one who told me Neverwinter Nights was in the stores. I'd been pretty much ignoring it in favor of Icewind Dale II until then!
