Midwest Furfest, Moving, Kung Fu, Christmas, and Bowflex

I think that covers just about everything...

I need to do some serious budget projections for the next few months. There are several things that must happen, several things I want to happen, and several things that would be nice to have happen, and frankly, I don't think they're all going to make it.

Moving is the first biggie. We've given notice to the apartment complex that we're out of here September 30, which means that we need to be in a new place by mid-September in order to have some time to clean up and generally make the transition. However, that means we're going to need cash for a deposit, cash for the overlapping rent period, available funds of some kind for truck rental, etc.

AnthroCon and Dragon*Con are both done deals; the commitment has been made, and HantaMouse has ponied up funds with the expectation that we'll pay him back -- so that money is basically spent. The fact that it's not readily available as cash at the moment means either we've got to cover him on other expenses (such as using his half of the AC car rental as credit towards what we owe him) or start giving him wads of cash every month.

Christmas comes but once a year, but you feel the pain all year 'round. ;) I am a little sick of giving people lame presents; I could do nice gifts when I worked at LifeMinders, and I got spoiled. :)

Kung Fu. I have been promising myself since I was 17 that I'd take more martial arts classes "soon." Every time I get started, something comes along and gets in the way. This is irritating the heck out of me. I have picked a school ... I just need to make time and money available for it. I don't want to have to choose between my kung fu and more furry cons, but I might have to.

Bowflex. What I just said about kung fu? Ditto for exercise machine. Now that I've more or less settled on one, it's time to make it a reality.

Midwest Furfest. Here's the problem child. The idea was that MFF would be the test bed for selling t-shirts -- which assumed I'd have more liquid cash on hand right now to start making t-shirts ... but instead I am busted and trying to avoid buying groceries on a credit card. This is not good! If I can't do the t-shirts, there's no way MFF can pay for itself, and if MFF doesn't pay for itself, well ... I can't go. As it is, it's stretching to go to AC and D*C.

Computer. The video card didn't fix this silly machine, and it's been tweaked until it's bleeding. I think that I'm just going to have to live with the fact that it's a lame computer and deal. :) Maybe next year. This one does everything I need it to, really ... it just does it with the slow, lurching quality of a reanimated mummy.

Vocational Training. My skillset is deteriorating. Unfortunately, I haven't the faintest clue where I want my career to go. This would probably have a higher priority if I had a direction in mind ... but how do I pick which career I'm not interested in to go after? :P

Further Confusion. I loved FC last year, but in all honesty, the only things it has that other furry cons don't, is the Bay Area. Mind you, I love the Bay Area, but I don't love it enough to be able to spend 14 hours on planes and $800 on a trip. I think this is going to have to be a wash, too.

Much as I hate to say it, I think MFF is going to have to go out the window. Without money coming back in to cover it, it's just another $500 weekend, and I can't afford any more of those. The computer, as I mentioned above, is also going to have to wait a year.

We'll see how the upcoming month goes ... I still have time to change my mind re: MFF if the bills are lower than I'm expecting. I haven't had a full month's pay at Circle yet, so I'm not sure how that will stack up.

Kung fu and the bowflex are the sticking points. The bowflex can be bought on a payment plan, so that's probably not a real problem. The kung fu, on the other hand, is just plain expensive, along the lines of $85/month expensive, not counting test fees, equipment purchase, and so forth. That's a big chunk! But I really want it, so I'll find a way. Cutting out trips to Starbucks would free up $50/mo...

-The Gneech, pondering

Oh, I did find where another bunch of money went, which was the new cellphone. That's a fair cop, it was a bit of an expense. Doesn't explain where the rest of that cash went, but I do need to include that in my extravagances for last month.
